A+ hostel! Free soup and breakfast make for friendly vibes. Very cool interiors and exteriors. Great view of the mountains outside. You can listen to the Kea outside and walk into town. Would definitely stay again!

Yes, this place badly needs a renovation and throw outdated stuff out. But hey... times were tough with no backpackers coming in for more than 2 years due to the heavy pandemic restrictions! Totally understandable a renovation won't happen soon.This place is the exact same as it was in 2018. But then I disliked it, because the kitchen was a mess all the time. That has changed in a positive way. Same kitchen, but empty and clean (enough) to cook a meal. Our kids enjoyed the TV room with Netflix.This hostel could use a new carpet, new furniture in the common rooms, etc. But the bathroom, toilets rooms and everything is clean. The hard working, but always friendly Chris made us feel welcome and keeps this place running very efficiently. Will stay here again next time.

What an amazing place. Outstanding manager and staff. Very welcoming and really go the extra mile. Put on soup at night and breakfast. They really care. Very affordable and comfortable with all the amenities. I have travelled extensively in the South Island and this would possibly be the best I’ve stayed at. Thanks guys

Great breakfast: toast, cereal, waffles and pancakes with plenty of toppings, tea and coffee, milkFree soup at nightWarm and quite big private room and clean.Friendly staff who helped us swith what to do in the area.No heater in the bathroom and some dust in the decorations but honestly no biggie

In many of the ways that matter most, this place is great with a very friendly staff (though I think it’s just the one guy, talk about busy), fun backpacker vibe and a lot of amenities. But the place is really showing fatigue, even by backpacker standards, and could use some structural improvements and a serious cleaning in ways that also really matter.Functionally, it gets the job done and more. Great kitchen, nice soup in the evening, and the hot tub is a win. Just loses some of that 5 star hostel vibe when you see how much repair stuff needs.

Super nice rooms for the price. Free wifi, free soup, free breakfast, free spa and weight room.Fantastic value stay, cannot recommend highly enough.Tea and coffee, microwave and fridge in the room. Hot shower. Comfortable beds.It's what all 3 star accomodations should be, and rarely are.

The rooms were a bit small but the beds had curtains. There was breakfast and evening soup included, a fitness room and a spa. There are 2 nice big kitchens and lounge areas and a pool table. For the cheap price of 32$ nzd per night the best hostel so far!!

Very cool hostel with free breakfast, including pancakes and waffles. Free vegetable soup in the evening and a free hot tube and gym. We stayed in a double private room with ensuite and a fridge. The power went out in the whole town when we were there and the owner organised a power station with wifi and outlets to charge your phone and keep your loved ones updated on your situation. Furthermore, the manager kept everyone in the loop about the situation and when the power would return. He managed to cook the hot soup on the BBQ (it was very welcome to eat something warm) and he adapted the breakfast menu in the morning (no pancakes or waffles without power... But we got cheese and ham in remplacement). Will go there again if I hit the west coast again.

Great value when you consider all the amenities — free breakfast and soup, cheap laundry facilities, spa pool and exercise equipment, etc. The manager is extremely friendly and helpful. The common areas are a bit tired, but our private room was nice, clean and comfy. In fact, we were sad to leave!

It's old and a bit shabby but amazing value for money. Our room came with complementary vegetable soup and breakfast. We would have stayed longer but they shut for the winter.
