Wing On Chang Food Market

On Thursday 9th is September, after dropping my kids to day care, i went to Wing on Chang food market to buy credit for my snapper card. On my way i found a big carton box on the street pavement right in front the shop. thinking it was coming from the shop and with the wind blowing i collected the box and brought it back in front the entrance and went in to get some credit on my snapper card. I handed a $20 note to the man at the till (the owner) who said to me that the box was not his. I ask if he could top up my card for $10 while I was removing the carton in front his door. I came back with the carton flattened and ask him is he could put it in his recycle bin. He replied it was not his and that he did not want to take it. I was surprise by this reaction but the worse was still to come... I ask for my change back and he says he gave it to me. I never received the change from him as I was too busy picking up the carton box in front his entrance so after checking all my pockets and my bag in front him I insisted he made a mistake and did not give me my change back. We checked the floor and the flattened box as he suggested (??) but nothing was found. I saw the CCTV camera and i ask if we could look at the camera to double check, he said he had no CCTV. I pointed the camera to show him he had CCTV him but he replied they don't work. So I told him eventually we will have to call the police and he straight away gave me the phone to call them. I did ring them but then he started telling me that he did not want to waste his time with this as he was on his won... I ask him if he had a suggestion on dealing with this matter and he said no that i should call the police. eventually i got on the phone with the police and he decided to give $10...I know he is the owner and I think his attitude was really bad in term of customer service. I felt I was being robbed, but most of all, I felt humiliated in front of other guest. I am in the service industry myself and when a guest have an issue i do my best to get of my way and serve them. In his case, I would have counted my till again (he just open his shop so it should have not be a problem) or may be gave the benefit of the doubt to the guest and give him his money back anyway... so many options was there but he chosen the wrong one. I do hope he will read this and realise we could have sort things out in a different way. At the end of the day you learn from your mistake but this man is not suited for this industry if it can't accept critics... It is a shame as his wife is lovely and the shop assistant very helpful.When he handed my money he said this is a donation and that he did not want to see me here again... As if! after what happened, I don't feel like coming back anytime soon.Hope this review will be helpful to others. I called the commerce commission and they suggested that to call the police and make a complaint with them directly... In case it happened to you, you know what to do!

Good groceries and attention to the customer

Many years ago I used to work and lived in Brooklyn and this was my local shop I would go into every day probably two to three times a day. Honestly they are super friendly awesome family business. They hold so much good stock of all kind of goods. They have a great selection of beers and wine. All their prices are very good. I highly recommend this place they are so much better than the place in Brooklyn. The wing on chang keep a clean shop.

Lived in n Wellington 33 years. This dairy is by far the best one I've had the privellage of using. Fair prices, the friendliest staff, and a very clean well presented shop with everything you could possibly need. A mini supermarket in it's own right. Keep it up guys. Brooklyn wouldn't be the same without you and the community appreciates your efforts.

Well organised, tidy store with lots of options and good prices

This is the best dairy in Wellington. A good range of stock and the best customer service. I enjoy my trips here - wouldn’t go anywhere else in Brooklyn!

Great dairy with a good selection of products. Really handy that the lotto is there now too. The owners and staff are super lovely, willing to go above and beyond to help.

Decent range for a decent little convenience store in a decent area of town. Good range of things you might want. Non alcoholic drinks are a bit hit and miss.Will fleece you a little bit with some of the prices but you get the convenience of local I guess.Sometimes they have the vegan Ben and Jerry's for my gf, other times... Eh.Nice staff. They do courier bags and post etc. Decent little bulletin board outside.

Racist owners: Twice now, if a white customer was behind me in the cue, they would be served first. The first time I wasn't paying attention and only realized this oddity after I was done. The 2nd time this was unmistakable and when I quizzed the woman, she gave me an indifferent shrug with a look of pure contempt. Ironically the woman was a fellow Asian, i.e. Indian or South Asian. Absolutely disgusting behavior - I won't be going back ever.

A nice hard working family providing a good service. Having long opening hours and well stocked shelves and fridges, combined with the above, makes this a 5 star convenience store in my eyes.
