Yamato Japanese Restaurant
Yamato met our expectations and everything more. It felt like we had walked into a beautiful space in the middle of Japan with delicate fresh flavours in every dish. The sashimi and sushi were out of this world and super fresh. Our kids aged 3 & 5 had a great time eating here. We hope to return. Thank you!

Lovely sashimi boat, and very busy restaurant. We arrived 6pm the restaurant just opened, after sitting down, the restaurant fill up very quickly

Yamato Japanese Restaurant
For starters we had the chicken dumplings, very tasty 7 out of 10.I had the Katsu Don, the pork was excellent, 8 out of 10.My wife had the salmon avocado sushi roll, this was 10 out of 10 due to it being the best we ever tasted. The service also 10 out of 10, very friendly and efficient. I will definitely be back.

We drove all the way from Hamilton to try Tomato, as friend highly recommended this restaurant. And we love it! The sashimi was so fresh, and the prawn roll sushi was crunchy and fresh. Impressive!

Beautiful food, warm and friendly service, prompt turnaround of order and lovely atmosphere.Husband and I came in for lunch on a work day, the restaurant was busy but everything was moving quickly. We ordered a lunch special bento box where you get to choose four dishes to go in it - great range of options, good portion size that left us feeling very comfortable.Definitely recommend as a great lunch spot.

We had the best experience today. The service from all staff was amazing. The manager was so welcoming, friendly and accommodating. The food was absolutely spectacular. My favourite place to eat out. We definitely will be dinning there on a regular basis. Could not fault anything. Great job to everyone. Thank you. Keep up the great work. U guys rock.

Yamato Japanese Restaurant
I used to live in Japan some years ago. This is definitely one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants in NZ. Real taste of Japan with reasonable price. We spent $71 for our family of 4 and we couldn’t finish it all and not to mention the food was so delicious. I hope we can find the same quality of Japanese cuisine in Auckland as well. Will definitely go back for more whenever we are in Rotorua. Highly recommend!

Amazing good food and very friendly service.The place is very popular so it seems that a reservation will be the best. We were 2min after opening there and get on of the last places.

Yamato has always been my favorite. I like the new owner :) she’s very friendly. Food review 1) sushi rice can be less sweet 2) fish and tamago sushi were perfect 3) shrimp popcorn too sweet and too much sauces 4) tofu salad can have more salads? 5) udon was good 6) negitoro was good 7) tataki was good but maybe dressings on the beef might be better? 8) waitresses were bit lost and confused not sure why. I came in and they were busy among themselves so I had to wait in front of the counter awkwardly… Anyhow, definitely good sushi, better than Auckland

Yamato Japanese Restaurant
Some of the best Japanese Ive eaten, even including Japan. The fish is so fresh and the rice is the perfect temperature and seasoning. Tempura is crispy and not oily. There is a wonderful selection of sake and some shochu, a lot of which is hard to get outside of Japan. My only regret is that I got full and couldn't eat more.
