I have spent days upon days trying to sand and redimension skirting boards that I ordered from here months ago. I could not believe the shocking state of these boards. I've seen rough sawn timber smoother than this and the dimensions have changed from one board to another. I shouldn't have even taken the boards but I'm new to ordering timber and didn't have the guts to say anything st the yard.On top of that. The boards I ordered were meant to be a specific length but when I came to pick them up they were a metre and a half longer and they tried charging for the extra timber. Thankfully the guy at reception worked with me in correcting this. However, they insisted on cutting the boards down to the lengths THEY chose, not what I ordered, so that they could salvage a few full length boards to on sell later. This has meant that almost every wall I'm installing on has a mitre joint on the board. And due to their terrible dimensioning, there is a noticeable difference in height from one board to another.Just awful.I felt like I was really taken advantage of because I was clearly new to the process.

They say no job to small. Went in there to see if they could make me to a pattern supplied a couple of seesaw seats for a seasaw for my grandson. Hard going and didn't get out of his seat. Far too hard. The last they will ever see from me. I prefer to support local business but they have lost my support.

Halswell Timber is a specialist wood supplier who produce an extensive range of dressed and moulded timber in a variety of species. The staff are friendly and helpful and the prices seem to be reasonable. They are well worth considering for specialised and exotic timbers.

We visited a number of timber yards, for wood to make a set of stairs and Halswell Timber stood out miles above the rest. With the stair specs, they have good advice and quoted it out on the spot. They sourced and finished the timber to the exact requirement. Note, their website just doesn't do justice for the great service you can expect.

Sold us kiln dried pine for our deck. It was framing wood that they just wanted to get rid of. We took a gamble and bought for our deck. Now we have cupping. I even asked if the ends needed sealing after I cut them but they said just stain it. I feel they offered us no advice and have led to our new deck being ruined.

I had a job done at Halswell Timber Yard today and had the pleasure of using them about two years ago. Nothing has changed with this expert and friendly business. A breath of fresh air in today's world. Adric and I forget the other chaps name sorry, did a great job today. Highly recommend.

I have been fortunate enough to have the team at Halswell Timber help us source timber and a tradesperson to complete a fencing project. Adrick has gone above and beyond to help us and at every step has proven himself to be knowledgeable, professional and friendly, what a gem!
