Close to the Geodetic Survey Mark is a chair donated by the Dunedin Amenities Society, New Zealand’s oldest environmental Society and established in October 1888.

We started out from the carpark at the Bull Ring on Flagstaff Whare Flat Road. It is a moderate short walk on the Flagstaff track, going up a slight steep track to the top of Flagstaff, where the geodatum marker is. You can loop back to the Bull Ring carpark or go on to other tracks, Ben Rudd Hut, Jim Freeman track or Pineapple track. The ontop view is the Dunedin's skyline of the city and surrounding mountains.

Awesome walk and view but if coming up the Pineapple track way you will need some fitness or be prepared to stop often, I would recommend plenty of water, snacks, decent camera and a inhaler if asmetic as it's a step climb from the start unless you walk to it from 3 Mile Hill side as that's a bit easier

On Saturday, 6 September my brother Damian the driver and I walked up along the track to the observatory with the concrete pole with views of Dunedin city, Saddle Hill, Mosgiel and the Taieri Plains following the spectacular sunset between about 5:20pm and 5:46pm. I found the walk track was a bit hard with some bump so I used my walk pole Then come home via Mosgiel and Saddle Hill.

A great day walk for the family. Stunning views and only a 10 minute drive from the centre of the city to the start of the track
