It was a really nice place with really friendly staff. I will definitely stay here again next time I'm in Wellington on a business trip.

We stayed here for one night on Saturday. There were no front-of-house staff on duty when we arrived and we just picked up our room key in an envelope left at the front desk. Our room on the 4th floor was unheated and the heat pump failed to work. We managed to contact a back room" staff member who arranged for us to transfer to another room on the 3rd floor with central heating. While the room was nice

For the price of this hotel it’s no where near value for money. Little things like tissues, shampoo not in room. For the price I would have expected bath robesThe shower is level with the bathroom floor the water leaks out all over making the floor very slippery I fell as didn’t realise the water went under the bathroom door. The receptionist said sorry and would report it !! This is not a new shower I am sure it’s been reported previous. We are traveling NZ been here over 2 weeks by far the worst hotel stayed in. I now have bruises, swollen knee and hand from my fall. The hotel needs to address health and safety for guests. I would not recommend this place

Great value for money. Clean comfortable beds. Fantastic staff.Beautiful bathroom with large bath. Windows that open to let in fresh air.It will be fabulous once the bar and dinning areas are open.

Dirty room. TV/AV didn't work with four separate faults. Aggressive, rude, scruffy manager offered $50 refund two days later. I thought it was a joke, but no. This place has really gone down hill. Manager in particular needs to dress like one and act like one. A little bit of PR training would have sorted this out easily. Such a shame.

For anyone who loves old hotels, this is such a treat - over 100 years of loving care gives it a timeless beauty and serenity. Bliss.

This is a unique and brilliantly eccentric experience that I’d recommend. It is like stepping back in time. Lift is 1920s style with a small sliding wooden door and cage (maximum of 4 people). Decor is similarly like a Time Machine (all polished wood, carpets and black and white tiles). Freemasons were meeting on the 2 floors below us. Building is beautiful. Room was clean and quiet (we couldn’t tell if there was anyone on the floor with us), with an enormous bathroom. You need to try this at least once. But don’t expect it to be like staying in a 5 star modern hotel - that isn’t what you are buying here.

This hotel is my 'go to' in Wellington. Great location for meetings with officials or politicians, good price, massive rooms and the best hotel bathroom I've seen outside the Bolton (which costs WAY more). Shabby chic and full of character. Comfy beds and reasonable service. Reason they don't get 5 stars on service is the desk being unmanned after 6pm.

had the pleasure of staying this week, always try to stay somewhere different and this is certainly that. Very historic but in need of some work. The room was great and they let me check in early 10 am... unheard of and very much appreciated given I had a pretty full-on day.The hotel was full but we didn't really see anyone else there.Pros:Very historicLooks haunted but guaranteed that it wasn't. Still, super fun to explore the property at night. The rooms are massive we Stay in FreyburgThe bathrooms were amazing and the stand-alone bath was very coolThe location is very centralVery affordable compared to other hotels in the areaCons:Dated and needs workShowers in the morning only had warm waterNot enough staff. (*) this is an issue across NZ with the lack of qualified staff. The staff there were there are super niceSummary:If you want a standard hotel experience this isn't for you. If you want somewhere with loads of history and character and is a little spooky I'd highly recommend it.If you want to host a murder mystery night this would be perfect.I'm sure that once good staff are available this would be a different experience.
