As a foreigner planning to live in NZ, I face many challenges in my pursuit to buy a land section and build a house for my family.Haydon Mattson is my solicitor since Jun 2021, when I was pursuing to buy a land section from real estate agents and a “house & land package’ from builders. He helped and worked with me to go through the Sale &Purchase (S&P) Agreement and the Build Contract, and even at one stage, tendered for a land section.During these cases of purchase, I have trust in him in his professionalism, reasonable & ethical judgements, and great experiences in Property and Conveyance Law. We have open and honest communication to exchange information and opinions freely to achieve logical course of actions. He returns my phone calls and reply my emails promptly. I find Haydon to be patient, attentive to details and communicate well.I successfully purchased a land section at a good price from a third party (not the land developer) in Jun 2022 finally. Haydon helped and worked with me from the beginning to the settlement date on 5 Sep 2022 to protect my interests, ensuring the S&P Agreement was 'airtight' and the transfer of land title was completed smoothly. He also advised and worked with me to look through the Build Contract and Specifications Addendum, enabling me to sign the contract with the builder confidently. At one stage, he prompted and brought my attention to the specifications of some build components, and offered his advice. For example, he asked and advised: “Are you happy with vinyl flooring in your ensuite, bath and toilet? You may want to consider ceramic tiles instead of vinyl in wet areas, as most properties now come with tiles in these areas”. I am glad that I heeded his advice to change to porcelain ceramic tiles and it was at a small additional cost.For acting for me in the purchase of the land section and the review of the Build Contract, the legal fees charged by NZ Property Law (Haydon’s company) is reasonable and commensurate with the skills and experiences of a good solicitor.I am very happy with the excellent legal service Haydon has given me, and in many occasions it exceeds my expectations.
