Merchant 1948 Riccarton

Bought the William flat for wife's birthday and very friendly staff. Lady even jokingly asked if I would like to try them on. It was funny...no bother.

I bought 2 pairs of $250-$300 leather shoes from here which both wore out completely within 6 months (the boot heel disintegrated on one, and the leather literally wore through and split open on the loafers I bought). When I asked them if 6 months was the expected life of their shoes they shrugged and said “yeah”. The quality of the shoes here has gone down massively in the past couple of years unfortunately - and Merchant used to be my go-to!!☹️ I ended up buying a replacement pair of boots from Zara, and a replacement pair of loafers from H&M, both of which have lasted a year and a half so far and have no signs of wear or damage. If you want shoes that last I would not spend money here - the designs are beautiful but the reality is they might not last the season.

I went to Merchant/Overland last week and I received the most amazing service from Tash. I was after a new pair of work shoes and she helped me until I found the perfect shoes. She was friendly and professional. I will definitely be back!

Such a poor service. We were ignored by all of the sales. After we asking, one of the sales just left the shoes we would like to have a try on the counter, then rushed to other customers, chatting and laughing. Never had any bad service than this. You just had two customers in the store at the moment, and we even needed to grab the shoes by ourselves from the counter?

Very bad customer service! Over priced, cheap quality product. Waste of money.Went into Riccarton mall store to complain/return the shoes I have bought 5 months back. They can see that the shoe was faulty and say “we don't know what you have done to that”When I was buying the Sales rep said you can use whatever wipes to clean the shoes. Now the manager cant guarantee what the sales rep guaranteed? Would expect more responsibility from the Manager.Probably I should find the sales rep sold this to me 5 months back? Not recommended !!

Pleasant enough experience when first buying shoes, but opon returning a repair I wanted to exchange, I was clearly an inconvenience. Decided to just get a store credit which ended up coming in the form of a gift card that expires after 12 months. After suggesting maybe they give me a refund instead I was effectively told it's too late and twelve months is a long time anyway". These gift card expiries should be illegal."

I really wanted to buy some shoes there. However no one wanted to serve me even at their none busy time. Today I made an eye contact with the staff holding a shoe at the counter, and they straight ignored me and went to serve others. So I went somewhere else and spent my money there.Is it because I am an Asian? I don’t know but I won’t go back to this awful store again. Many chances given.

Absolutely unprofessional staff. If you have some issues with purchase, contact help center. They will try to help. Don't waste your time to try to talk to staff in the store. Useless!!!

Today I met my new favourite shoe brand, my new favourite shoe store, and my new favourite shoe salesperson! Shoes by Bullboxer, sold by Melissa. Gave great advice in a friendly way and had all the time in the world to make sure I got a pair that I was happy with. Looking forward to going back there when I need a new pair.
