Amazing experience seeing shift" at the musuem. A great last exhibition before it gets remolded. Look forward to seeing the changes to this historic building."

Staff was very friendly. The museum is closed but they had an urban art exhibit called Thrive on. We quite enjoyed this! It takes you all over the building, including offices and conference rooms that have been converted into art. Great way to spend an afternoon.

The Canterbury Museum in Christchurch was one of our favourite places to visit, beautiful old building, very well preserved and looked after and definitely a must to see.We were a little short on time to see everything, but the extensive exhibition could take days, instead of hrs , to take all in.Highly recommended.

Great museum to visit. We managed to come here a couple days before the museum closed down for renovation. Only 1 level was open for visitors. Despite that, there were still plenty of informative sights to see. The staffs at the museum was really nice and friendly! Would love to see what the museum looks like after the renovations :)

We went and saw the Shift exhibition in February 2023. Tickets are $25 for adults ($20 for seniors). An interesting contrast between the old, formal nature of the building and such contemporary art. You will find a great variety of styles. Well worth a visit.

My last visit before they close down for 5yrs+ for complete redevelopment/rebuild. Amazing amount of space they have in there, but very clearly passed it's use by date in some places

The museum is CLOSED since October 2022. their is no exhibition of the Canterbury Museum anymore. They gonna restructure/rebuild the whole place for 5-7 years. From 11. April. There is a different exhibition there at the moment to help raise some funds for the restructuring. Entry fees apply as can be seen in the Photos.

Currently there is a special exhibition of street art. You have to pay to see this exhibition but it is well worth it. The whole museum, including sections which the public would not normally be allowed in, is covered from floor to ceiling, and sometimes the floor and ceiling too, with street art. There are a huge number of inspired creations. This is only a temporary exhibit open until April when the museum will be closed for five years for re-furbishment.

The Shift"urban art exhibition was awesome. A lot of art works from a lot of talents from around NZ and abroad. Worth flying from Auckland for this. Also thank the organizers for bringing this opportunity to kiwis ♥️"

The SHIFT Urban Art Takeover is undoubtedly the most unique and captivating museum I've ever set foot in! Essentially, it's a massive playground constructed where talented street artists showcase their work. Graffiti masterpieces adorn every surface. Be aware that there's a $25 admission fee, and the exhibit concludes on April 11th. I wholeheartedly suggest paying a visit before this incredible experience disappears.
