Sentinel Rock Lookout
10/10 would walk again. Go past the lookout down the hill to the left and check out the view from the top of the smaller rock in front of sentinel rock.

Sentinel Rock Lookout
I would recommend this track to anyone. We loved it so much. It was just perfect. Nestled in the bushes at times, rough but noticeable trails marked well, no crowded, tree coverage pretty much the whole way and the climb is gentle. Will be visiting often for sure. Huge thank you to those who volunteer to keep this track noticeable.

Really enjoyable hike with epic views at the top. Heads up, it only took us 2hrs 20 up & down, from the carpark… not the 4 hrs Doc suggests!

Fairly easy walk up to the Lookout. Bit more challenging up the steep face of the Rock itself. Good views. Relatively quiet track.

Steep but the view is worth it, Quickest hike in the kaimais to get to that height, you needed to be a good climber to get up sentinal rock

A great hike, the actual lookout is good but go down the trail a little more and you’ll find a better lookout point.

Just so you can say you were there, it's a sunny spot in the middle of the canopy. It does take a hour plus to get there...Note: The trail is unimproved, very rooty and you have to pay attention to the orange trail markers. Don't get caught in the dark or it will be a long night in the bush.

Sentinel Rock Lookout
Carpark is at the Tuahu Kauri walking tracks can fit 20 or so cars there, there is also a toilet. Walk starts off easy in a covered gravel walkway, once you get passed the Kauri tree to the next sign it's uphill from there, there are flat spots in between to give legs a little rest. Just before 1st lookout the track splits an goes up to right which leads to 1st lookout then can carry on to top of Sentinel Rock, the other way misses out the lookout and goes straight to the rope climb before reaching top of Sentinel rock. Views are spectacular on a cloud free day looking out to Mt Maunganui, Waihi beach, Katikati...
