Trippy - West Auckland Adventures & Bus to Piha
This was a highlight of our trip, as Mike is a great, funny guide, but also continues to study to provide in-depth info and history that you don’t get with a normal tour. This trip was also nice because you didn’t have a long drive and there was plenty of “time on our own” to explore the beach, cliffs and Piha Stores. Thanks Mike!! If you’re looking for a laidback but informative tour of Auckland with a chance to go “coast to coast” in one day, Mike is your guy! As an independent business and guide, he keeps everything casual, personalized and fun, while answering any questions and tailoring the agenda for the group’s individual tastes. The drive is an easy one, with plenty to see along the way. If you’re interested in the tour talk track, grab the front seat of the first row. If you just want to relax and take in the beautiful countryside, grab the back row and some shades.A few things to pack:-towels for the beach - to sit on if you don’t want to swim-snacks and sandwiches were key for us, as not everything was open during the winter season (it was a beautiful day and the beach was busy - by NZ standards - and the Piha shop was completely sold out of pies!)-If you don’t bring snacks, the restaurant looks really good but is expensive.-Bring some wine or beers for the beach! There’s an RSA our there that we could have stopped at, but it’s legal to drink on the beach.-Hiking-appropriate shoes AND beach sandals-Sunblock, sunglasses, etc.

Had a great experience with Trippy. By far the best way to get to and from Piha. In addition Michael is an amazing guide who is genuinely interested in topics around New Zealand history and Maori culture so I got a lot of insight from the trip.If you wanna go to Piha go with Michael. Its worth it.

Such a wonderful trip to Piha!I did the shuttle from Auckland with the nature tour. The walks were pleasant, beautiful, and informative. And the views were spectacular. My guide (Jo I think?) was super fun and cool with customizing the trip to everyone’s priorities

We booked this tour because it was the most affordable piha tour option. Usually when you cheap out on a tour , you get what you pay for. I'm glad to say this was not the case. The tour is actually operated by the owner which makes an incredible difference. Michael was a great guide. Down to Earth and had a great attitude. Took us to some amazing places along the way to the beach. Then when at the beach he gave suggestions on more places to check out and we were on our own to explore. I really like the ability to explore and not be stuck with a group. It was a great time and a fantastic spot. I can see why Piha is always popping up for places to check out near Auckland. Would strongly recommend everyone check out this tour

Trippy back up and running! The first thing our lovely tour guide Jo told us when we got in contact with her was an apology for any difficulty we went through trying to contact Trippy and an acknowledgment and explanation to why their service has been a bit rocky. Hence the bad reviews. It really seems like the Trippy team, at no fault of their own, have been navigating a difficult situation with COVID, their booking system notifications and an outdated phone number. She explained that Trippy has multiple booking systems and had been unaware for a period of time that trips from Auckland to Piha were still being shown as available on their website (and bookable) even though the business had temporarily stopped running due to lockdowns and generally so few bookings. The contact number that is both on google and their website was also not being manned at the time (and I think it still has problems now), so she gave us her business card in order to contact her directly as it seems she may be running the show a little at the moment. I’ve attached that business card to this review for anyone wanting to book with Trippy. We are SO glad that we did end up booking with Trippy because Jo was an angel and helped us in every way she could. She was super friendly and genuine, making the drive lovely, and she even drove us around to point out the useful landmarks and services available at Piha.Thank you so much and we would really recommend this service for anyone. A great opportunity to get out and about, with family, friends or even on your own! Piha is beautiful!

My husband and I did the Piha Paradise tour in mid November and really enjoyed it. We wanted to visit a black sand beach during our time in Auckland, but didn't want to have to deal with having a car in Auckland. The Piha Paradise tour included so much more than just a ride to the beach, making it a really great deal! Our tour group had 10 people, which I believe is the max. We enjoyed this more than large tours on a full size bus. Michael had a lot of great information to share while we were on the hike, and it was great to stay at the beach until sunset.

This was a last minute book after hearing how great it was from other people we met on a different tour. An all day excursion from Auckland CBD out to the west shore in Piha was too good to pass up. Our guide, Jo, was amazing! She was enthusiastic and friendly as she navigated the narrow roads out to Piha all the while telling us snippets of what's happened in the past news as we drive by certain areas. Once we got out to hike, the views of the waterfall, beaches and terrain was once-in-a-lifetime. Jo did a great job making the hike doable for all levels of fitness, all the while making sure we were well hydrated. Once we got to Piha, we had about two hours to ourselves and Jo told us some great things to do. The little cafe in Piha had a great lunch too! My tip is make sure to bring lots of water and if you're looking to get into the water, bring a swimsuit!
