Gates of Haast
Gates of Haast is a fancy name for gorge where the road crosses from one side of the river to the other as you head up, or down the pass. On the way up, there's decent area to pull over and take pictures on your right, before you cross the one lane bridge and hit the steepest part of the road. Nice view up the valley to the mountains beyond.

Amazing view of the river as we crossed this bridge. Its a single lane bridge so please give way for heavy/large vehicles. Looks like a great place to see a series of rapids of the river Haast. There is a car park on Haast highway, right after the Gates of Haast bridge when driving towards Wanaka.

Cool bridge and river just after the falls if heading south. Worth a brief stop, there’s plenty of parking

Gates of Haast
Breathtaking. Although it was more like the gates of hell this trip. A full van and a long downhill to the bridge. Made us stop and take it in though.

Gates of Haast
Gates of Haast is a rocky gorge with series of rapids on the Haast River, cutting across the Haast Pass. t is sign posted on State Highway 6 at a single lane bridge, about halfway down a steep hill from the Haast Pass summit to the Pleasant Flat camping ground on the valley floor. There's a small car park at both sides of the bridge, where you can pull over to appreciate the scenery. If you are driving towards Wanaka, it is about 5-10 minutes drive from Thunder Creek Falls.
