Absolutely horrendous. Was told by a councellor" that I needed to "do the work" in order to get better. I have ptsd

This review isn't about how bad the service is, it's about how bad the state of mental health support is within New Zealand. I understand Lifeline is all volunteers, and it really does show. I was told that someone would call me back the following day to check I was ok. I told them I didn't believe them, they said trust me

Called a few times. Every time I was either left on hold for hours or they called me back hours later. When I did get through staff were dismissive and just told me to ring a GP and get more meds over and over until I hung up. God forbid anyone who was in any kind of actual emergency call these useless people.

Honestly had a really good experience calling for 2 nights in a row (but I was suicidal, which does get you attention).Unfortunately, I was kindly told there were other people that were priority of me in another case, which is understandable, but still left me feeling that my issues were unimportant.Unfortunately, you only get real attention and actual help if in NZ if you are suicidal (which I generally am), or otherwise you are sort of 'low importance' etc.I guess it's not as easy as it may seem for NGO services to help all people, especially if they only have 'mild to moderate' issues.Personally I think preventative conversations are equally as important, and not just addressing a person in critical need of help when they are at breaking point.

Depends on who you get. They aren't that helpful, they have a time limit and won't go over it no matter what is happening. They also want to know exactly who you are or give very little advice.I can't be bothered with rubbish service like this....

The number is not allocated to anyone. fabulous for a suicidal teenager to be given this number and have no one at the other end

Really kind and helpful. I have a support team who calls me most nights and for quite a while it was every night.

No wonder the suicide rate in NZ is so high … they don’t help , instead they bully you and mock you

Text them four and a half hours ago... still waiting... it would be better for NZ mental health if you didn't run the service at this point, to be honest.
