Orewa Bakery

Walked in here at 2:10pm on a Monday.As per photos, was surprised that the costs look relatively normal (4-5 dollars for a sandwich, 6-7 dollars for a pie).Bought their silver award steak cheese pie.First thing I noticed was the skin and its texture. It was thick and had no texture. (Perks: it definitely wont tear apart unless you bite it. It also wont collapse into a mess of crispy crust)Then, the filling. It was gel-like, or gloopy, instead of being meat-saucy. I feel they used starch powder to hold it together. The filling is largely this gel-like savoury meat sauce with a few dry and flavourless pieces of beef, and nearly no cheese. Massive amounts of filling, however.I recommend these pies to people who like massive meat(?) fillings and relatively affordable prices and don’t care about pie crust texture or sauce flavour.

I work near by and often stop in for a pie in the morning and never disappointed. Best pies on the Coast!

Red Beach have very good pies, but not as good as Orewa Bakery. They don’t skimp on the filling and a really good ratio of meet to gravy. Love their pies.

$6.90 for Moroccan lamb pie. Tasty hot filling with chunky hunks of meat and sauce. Good pastry

Had there potato top pie was below par, lacked in seasoning, customer service was great though

During my 2 month placement in Orewa I tried steak & cheese and chic&veg pies here. Both were so very nice, full of filling, the pies were so filled up it was hard to eat without spilling some of it. They were full of flavour as well. Friendly service too

Average pie , with decent sausage roll. Pie was well below my expectations

The pies are amazing but the pastry bases are too thick!

Probably the best bakery in Orewa for steak and cheese pies. Would recommend if you're looking for a good pie
