Pouto Point Lighthouse

Wonderful tour, 4wd, tour guide, wealth of knowledge on the area

Great place to visit. It helps if you have a 4x4 to get up to the lighthouse itself.

The historical lighthouse on the rugged west coast out of Dargaville. Drove down the beach to the headlands over looking the Kaipara Harbour. You would need a four wheel drive vehicle with the soft sand and make sure of the tide in case you get trapped as the tide comes in. Stunning views out over the Tasman Sea.

Absolutely stunning experience! 2,5 hour walk one way. Be careful of dirt bikes and jeeps, there are a lot of them on the beach. Met a seal on the way, he was adorable ❤️

This is a beautiful place with a historically significant lighthouse to walk or drive to. This is a long walk on soft sand and a bit of a slog up sand dunes. Even this time of the year it was hot!! No cover so take water. Personally I wouldn't walk to it again and would recommend driving or doing the tour. We had gone around the bottom at low tide but had to come back across the top of the sand dunes as the tide had come in too close to the rocks for us to make it back that way. Keep going around to the bottom of the cliffs and keep looking up as the lighthouse isn't visible until you are right by it or if you head up the 4 Wheeler tracks.... keep going until the end of the dunes. We actually didn't see anyone else on the beach the whole time there.

Almost 15 kms round trip. A long walk, but worth it for the views. You can take a quad bike tour I believe. Go on the outgoing tide

Fantastic place to have a great adventure with a quad bike ride over miles of rolling sand dunes. You will come across a vintage light house, old ship wrecks, streams and deep sand cliffs, over which John; the quad bike hirer will take you like a breeze! :)

Can’t believe this place is not in the top 10 “must visit” in northland.The walk take around 5hr (return), the best is to rent a 4wd and have fun around the sand dunes.
