Yes you will get sandflies - but that is true for all spots all over south island…This spot is devine - hands down the best campingspot we saw in 12 days of camping in NZ

What a spot! Quiet (can hardly hear the road), utterly beautiful! Didn’t really encounter the dreaded sand flies but weren’t there very long. Arrived in our campervan at sunset and left just after sunrise.There are long drop loos (which I didn’t use) and bins.

We stayed for two weeks at the Kingston Top 10. It had every thing that you would expect from a Top 10 Holiday Park plus more. Unlimited wifi was an unexpected bonus and the communal facilities were modern, attractive and kept to a high standard of cleanliness.

Very lovely freedom camping spot with portaloos and large rubbish bins for campers use. Most areas of the park is sloping or uneven but some flat bits available for the larger vehicles. Pity to see some of the 'guests' not making use of the facilities . Area is monitored for non compliant vehicles.

Possibly my favourite free camp spot on the south island, the location is great it has toilets and bins. If you get a spot along the river it has amazing views to sit and look at.

Kingston Lake Camp
Has to be one of the best sites in the South Island if not New Zealand. Perfect spot to park by the lake edge. Shallow enough to swim safely and safe enough for kids and the child at heart. Plenty of rubbish bins, rooms for several campervans and plenty of sites in the shade if you want that. Toilets are long drop but kept well.

Nice freedom camping site. Clean toilets. You can hear cars on the highway as it’s just directly off the road.

Right next to the lake, not too many sandflies and it's free. No tap though, so bring enough water.
