Matauri Bay Beach

This is a Beautiful Beach. It is a minute walk from the car park. Great for families and young children. Nice and Sandy!! The beach has waves (not big ones) and people do come to body board and surf occasionally. If you are on holiday, I highly recommend.

One of the most unfriendliest locations I've visited in NZ (which are very rare, fortunately). Its not about the beach, which is amazingly beautiful, but about the social atmosphere. There are so many uninviting sign boards everywhere for visitors by both the locals and the camping ground management. It simply implies that visitors are not really welcome here. We only wanted to visit the Rainbow Warriors memorial ground. Ironically the only path to go there crosses the camping grounds but the sign boards tell you to get off the camping grounds if you were not a campsite customer!! I wonder what on earth made the sculptors to locate that noble memorial in this hostile land!!! Locals are really arrogant, and those who work for the campsite are not friendly either. Hardly any road rules as village teenagers drive old cars over 80 kmph on these narrow winding roads and don't give a hoot for anyone else on the road. Overall its so unwelcoming a place and I wouldn't want to visit this place ever again!!

Great safe swimming and surfing beach the day we were there

The Matauri Bay Look out is epic!!!! But the beach itself is amazing!!!! I love sea and sand & this place has exactly that! You have to stay at the Holiday Park for the ultimate experience.

Very good place for surf beginners and kids

Beautiful spot. Nice sheltered bay for a family swim. White sand. There is a carpark and 2 x public toilets. No shops so take your own food and water. Best to take a sun umbrella or shade tent. Road into Matauri Bay is fully sealed.

Omg this beautifully nature-crafted Bay is home to beautiful waters and plays host to campers from all over Aotearoa (Matauri Bay Holiday Park). The bay envelopes a myriad of islands that are accessible to the public (walk, swim, paddle, etc) and is home to the local hapu and, the Epiha sisters (see YouTube).

Lovely beach with fine sand and good waves. There were some surfers but wave was not big enough for surf.
