What a place! We were literally blowin away at the size of this historic beautiful cemetery. New & old graves, we just had to visit the older side, has that airy/spooky vibe which we loved. Much respect. Will definitely be back! A+

I was born in Canada in 1965 (half Native Inuit) and raised in the suburbs of Auckland New Zealand by my grandparents and family there- until returning to Canada for highschool- and now live in the USA.Most of my family are deceased now- and I only just found my grandfather's grave (photo of). He died in our home in Glen Eden- with the solace and sorrow of our family who loved him dearly- and honored his pride of his service in the British Navy of his homeland of Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom- and buried him here in the Military Cemetery. It is all as I remembered it so vividly of when he died when I was eleven years old.I so appreciate to have found photograph record of his grave site here.Rest in peace Grandpa Davies- in your paradise and the most beautiful and peaceful country in the world.

We went to search for the grave of a friend who died nearly 40 years ago. No luck looking, but hardly surprising as we were in totally the wrong area. Staff were so helpful, even leading us right there and helping us to find the plaque. Very impressive customer service. Thanks guys!

Have been trying to ring every day for 7 days. 09 phone number not in use. 0800 never calls me back or answers, even cuts me off. Tells me less than 5 minutes wait, 2 hours later still waiting.

Waikumete Cemetery was established in 1886 and is the final resting place for over 70,000 people. The Chapel of Faith in the Oaks was built in 1886 as a mortuary chapel and was used until the larger chapel was built in 1952. It is available for hire for religious services.Waikumete is home to a number of prominent historical areas including the Erebus Memorial, Holocaust Memorial, NZ Influenza Epidemic memorial and the ANZAC Cenotaph.
