A great location when the ugly 4x4 drivers aren’t messing with nature. Ban the bloody recreational vehicles and motor bikes!

The track entrance is at the west end of Owhiro Bay. It provides a stopping point for people visiting the south coast or continuing further around the coastline.Previously a quarry, it is at the beginning of an easy 4WD drive to Red Rocks and the seal haul-out area at Sinclair Head. This area is also open for 4WD vehicles on every day other than Sundays, when the gate is closed and it is only open for walkers and mountain bikers. The western end of Taputeranga Marine Reserve is below the quarry.

Sights @ Red Rocks Reserve..This rugged coastal area features a 7.4km walking trail that takes you around interesting geological features in about 2 - 3 hours..Because of high iron oxide, many of the rocks in the area are amber red in colour, contrasted by the gray rocks shaped roughly by ocean spray, creating a surreal yet beautiful landscape..There's a colony of fur seals here in winter; though people are advised to keep a distance so as not to cause them stress. Also, many seagulls..Spotted a shooting star on a night here.
