In short: bad service and rude waitress - she needs to learn some manners urgently. Waited over an hour for 2 burguers. At minute 40, I had to order a second beer and asked for the burgers... being cooked" I was told. At minute 60 I asked again and was told I could get a refund if I wanted. When the burguers arrived not even one simple "I'm sorry for the delay" and then one of them was wrong

Almost decrepit. Shame to see this go to the pack.

Great food, great prices, great service. The Whataroa burger is the best I had in NZ, better than a Ferg Burger. Delicious fluffy potato wedges and chips.

Hearty, homely food. Friendly owners. All-round good pub: does exactly what it says on the tin.

The Hotel does not have a license to sell alcohol or food at the moment but accommodation is still available. Rooms, campsites, powered or unpowered, backpackers & cyclist friendly. Full kitchen facilities, dining room, hot showers etc. Come and stay!

Entering in a new pub can be daunting, and it was.. Few minutes after coming in, we wer rvreetrd by the host, ordered a drink and sat down. It was Tuesday night, darts night in Whataroa. All guests were very friendly; the host and the kitchen staff answered all our questions and were incredibly helpful! Food was lovely, atmosphere was great and drinks were really good. Nothing to complaint, everything to be positive about! We went there both nights we stayed in Whataroa, it was worth it!

We had a problem with being charged twice on our credit card. We rang and sent messages to no avail. Fancy a business that never answers their phone. No way to run a business. We certainly won't be visiting there again!!! Don't deserve patronage.

The facility is probably being transformed from a hotel with pub to a hostel but at the time is quite messy with a lot of stuff piled around. Overall old building, clean toilets and showers (some doesn't work), the kitchen is very messy, essentials are there but a lot of random stuff in the corners, most light switches and plugs doesn't work. No wi-fi. The price is ok but not suitable for the level of service.

Mads (owner) will go above and beyond to make your stay here as comfortable as possible. She is a true west-coast experience just like staying in the Whataroa hotel! A rough diamond for sure, so keep your expectations checked. but a real authentic experience of west coast charm. If you are a down-to-earth type of person, this is a great experience. This was definitely the highlight of our trip down south, there are not many places like Mad's hotel left in NZ. It's a gem!
