Shingle & Shake Roofing

Where do I begin? I engaged Shingle & Shake in May of 2021 to inspect my shingle roof and make repairs where needed. What followed was over a year of bad communication, poorly worded quotes, changing goal posts and huge stress for me and my family.In May 2021, S&S visited to look at two specific roof leaks in my home that had created obvious interior damage. The roofer spent time inside and outside the property, completed the work (at a cost of well over $3,000) and assured me the leaks were fixed.Come September 2021, and I discovered that one of the leaks was not fixed, and in fact had gotten worse. Combined with this and finding a fresh leak in another part of the house, I again engaged S&S to come back and do more repairs. They charged me again ($1000) although later claimed that this did not include the re-work on the first leak (their quotes/invoices are very generic and do not itemise labour/materials and where they are used).In February 2022, after heavy rain, I discovered that the second original leak from May 2021 was also still active. After writing a formal letter of complaint, both the roofer and his manager attended the property to inspect again. They explained more work would be required to actively stop the leak, and duly sent through yet another generic looking quote ($1300!) for this work.By this point I had obviously had enough. My complaints fell on deaf ears, S&S citing their roofers 35 years of experience (which doesn't count for much in my opinion when you can't fix a leak after two attempts), their sole offer of coming to the party being a $265 discount on the latest quote...yeah great.I engaged another roofing company (there are plenty of alternatives to S&S) and they have taken a far better approach to repairs, actively investigating where leaks have come from and fixing them properly, with far better communication and explanations right from the start.I was told by people I trust that S&S are the best, but in this case they fell well short, and based on another review here, I'm not alone.

I had a good experience with the roofing division, they were prompt and helpful finding the leak first time and repairing it at a fair cost. Will use again.

The work done was fine.Having to agree a totally undetailed quote before the work was a mistake by me which cost dearly.Their pricing model really, really is something to behold and wonder...Review of the information provided after the bill was queried evidenced that I probably paid about at least 3 times what it should have cost. The disputes tribunal ruled against me as I signed a quote. Accurate but unfair to the customer.Advice: get a fully detailed quote before agreeing to work and ask questions.
