Biking Nelson

Rented a hardtail for Mt Dun Trail. Suspension locked up after 30 minutes. I think my road bike has more travel... should have known better than to rent an MTB from the desk of a hostel. I’d recommend trying any of the other dedicated bike shops around.I did check all positions of the fork locking lever and used the only position that provided any perceptible travel. If the fork was indeed locked out, then that indicates the fork lockout mechanism itself was jammed or broken.Another problem was that the tires were severely under-inflated. I noticed this and requested a pump to inflate them. The hostel desk staffer would have let me take the bike out as is, resulting a high chance of a flat tire.The owner response indicates their attitude toward maintenance. Why proactively clean and oil components when the tourists will be gone the next day?I rarely bother to write negative reviews, but in this case I think this “shop” is lending out unsafe bikes. If you value your well being, go to a conventional bike shop.

Hired a mountain bike for 5 days to do some trails around Nelson ranging from the challenging Dun Mountain Trail to the Great Taste Trail. Brilliant service, Dave Judson and also Jenny at the desk were very helpful, great bike, very good value, will happily go there again without hesitation.
