Kanuka Loop Track Trailhead

That's ok. Some sign with history of the region and ruins. Many walk around.

We.passed through with our sneakers. We took a 4x4 up a dirt road. Get to the top and wow. Short walks up to a day walk. Great for mountain biking or preparing for coast to coast running. Then to top it off little ruins of old mining houses dotted in the landscape. Mental!! People lived like this??? Must do. Slice of NZ gold mining history.

We were group of 7 ladies in their early/ under 40th with different fitness level.We all agreed it was enjoyable, semi hard walking track. Time for a walk said 5hrs we did it in 4h 30minutes with lots of short stops and 20minutes lunch break stop.Good uphill walking, little bit technical downhill walking. Landscaping is constantly changing and you will have stunning views. Definitely need enough water because there is no water supply. In dry weather conditions all good with your trainers shoes however if wet I wouldn't recommended it and will take hiking shoes or boots. Will do definitely again.

The view on the beginning of the track is amazing, same as on the end. The middle not too much. It's definitely advanced track with a lot of ups and downs and ups and downs, and again and again. Not sure about the range, but it definitely felt much more than 10km tho. The track is well marked, but the road itself is in some spots, hmm let's say hard. Sometimes you don't know if it's still track or if you're jumping from rock to rock. The track is mostly made just for one person, so tight road, that you can't even place feet together on one spot.For me, as someone with almost no fitness level, it was very hard, took me around 7hrs,but mostly because I was giving up (2 months constant travel is not good for someone like me).Would I recommend it? If you're fit and love nature, bush walks? Yes, go for it. If your fitness level is low or very low, it's doable but I wouldn't recommend it to you, there are much more beautiful tracks and less harder for people like as :).

This is a great hike to do if you're staying near the Tarras area. There were no other people on the day my friends and I did the hike. It is a serious 5 hour hike, so a bit fitness is required - lots of ups and down. The views are definitely worth it though. Mt Pisa and Lake Dunstan were spectacular, saw some sheep, craggly rocks, heard some lovely bird calls along the way. In late October we still saw snow-capped mountains in the distance. Plenty of spectacular photo opportunities. Bring enough food and water for your journey! Tracks are all well-marked.

The Kanika loop track is special because of its unique terrain and the incredible views of The Pisa range.

Nice hike through rocky hills, may be walked in 2-2,5h by fit hikers rather than 5h

Loved it, sure is an advanced walking track! Great views of the Cromwell basin!

A more technical challenging trail with both step up and down at times...but overall... Around 12kms return to top Car park... well worth the 2.5 hrs walk jog.... Loads of really old ruins and signs of the late 1800s all around.
