Countdown Carlyle

It looks a bit shabby on the outside, but I was blown away by the range of products, especially gluten free. There didn't appear to be any empty shelves which was great. Obviously short staffed on checkout - quite a wait.

They are always rubbish on staffing at checkouts. I'd give higher points for that alone. Standing around with no where to purchase 3 items is ridiculous and all the other checkouts have queues of full trolleys and 5-6 per line.

It's kinda odd having two countdowns within sight of each other - assume it is a throwback to when they were different chains that got swallowed up to become countdown. A decent supermarket - not too massive but still a pretty good range for everything you might need.

Nice to see that Countdown Carlyle still has the Metal Art Ltd Sanitizing stations promanitly displayed and stocked at the front of their store. The overall presentation of the store was clean and tidy, and the checkout operator was very friendly and knowledgeable. The national egg shortage is also currently hitting this store, however we were advised that daily deliveries were commencing again from tomorrow after the News day public holidays.

BE VERY CAREFUL … Countdown Carlyle is, in my admittedly subjective and personal opinion, definitely the most pleasant place to shop of the three supermarkets in close proximity in this part of the city … HOWEVER …… have just done a small “shop” there. Amongst other items, picked up a couple of 1kg packs of our favourite streaky bacon … been a while since last purchased … $19.00 each … hmm, not as expensive as I expected given recent (and continuing) price rises. Hmm, not as heavy as I associate with 1kg. Take a close look … 800g … that’s $23.75 per kg. Ouch! Wonder how long they’ve been doing that to me?Reversed course and returned all items to their correct original places. Went across the road to Pak’n’Save. Same bacon but in our usual 1kg packs. … $17.99 … that’s $5.76/kg less. Pak’n’Save, you’ve earned yourself a new customer.I understand price increases but I really, REALLY get annoyed when businesses sneak prices up with visually “the same” packaging that contains less product. Supermarkets are quick to shout (eg) “Same price, 20% more product” (or similar), how about some helpful “Same price, way less product” banners.

Not enough checkouts open twenty minute wait we all know Tuesday is a good shopping date but waiting for a long time not good just as well staff are great.Masks off Great! September 22Some heavy NZ inflation visible 2023
