We spent 2 weeks at Flaxmill. The first with friends who stayed in a 3 bed house whilst we were in a 1 bed cottage, the second week on our own in the same cottage. The staff were really friendly and helpful the site was as it suggests... a beautiful hideaway. We ate out every day, mostly at Eggsentric a short walk away. The beach was literally on the doorstep, but we also went to Cathedral Cove walkway (allow more time than they suggest for the walk, especially on a hot day, ice cream van on the return journey much appreciated) and Cooks Beach. A looong sandy beach which looks well frequented in the high season. We also walked to and then took the cute ferry to Whitianga, which at the time felt expensive until we drove to Whitianga, then we understood. We took a day to visit Hobbiton. We decided to leave early and booked a tour for 9am. We were not disappointed, it was really well set out and with a free drink at the Green Dragon our experience was complete. Be prepared to stick with your crowd and meet some lovely people from around the world. Very well organised, and if you're a fan... Worth it.Most of the time it poured with rain. They said it had not been like this for 5 years. For this the reason we didn't visit more places, but that's ok as we needed to relax. Roads had been closed due to 'slips' before we arrived and when we left we had to drive through flooded rivers and on very dicey 'Gogle Map' detours to avoid more road closure and slips. We're used to this because of where we'd lived before, but if you don't know NZ roads and are thinking it will be smaller and easier to get around.... think again, and allow much more time than you'd think. We would have been petrified doing the journey in a camper van. What would've taken 10 hours took us over 12, and we were exhausted at the end if it. Though we did stop at Cambridge and ate a superb Italian meal at Alpino's restaurant on the way.Overall Flaxmill was a superb place to stay for a great hideaway.

We loved Flaxmill and didn't want to leave! The gardens and landscaping make it simply paradise with a beautiful beach just across the road and the ferry to Whitianga just up the road. The room was faultless and we had a thoroughly lovely time. Of all the places we stayed in on the Coromandel, this was by far the best.

We stayed in the campground for 3 nights in February 2023 and could even have stayed longer. It was the last of our 10 nights camping here in New Zealand, and what a way to finish. Having enjoyed almost all of the campsites we stayed at, nevertheless we found Flaxmill something really special. Clayton, Kathy, Chris and the whole team were incredibly helpful. The grounds are stunning, the facilities are spotless and we really enjoyed the location especially the local beaches and nature. We were amazed how much had been recovered after the cyclone and in fact one might never have known it happened. Thank you.

I hosted [pause] retreat at Flaxmill last weekend and it was the best decision choosing to stay there. The team were incredibly helpful at every stage from enquiry, to booking, to our actual stay. The accommodation itself is beautiful and we couldn't have been happier there. thanks so much!

We have stayed here 4 times, camped, stayed in a cabin, and stayed in one of the houses. The camping facilities are first class unlike any other campground I have come across. The sites are big and spacious and the gardens are always immaculate. The cabins are comfortable warm and well appointed. The houses are next level- they are beautiful, modern, warm, clean & tidy and you want for nothing when your staying there. This is our favorite retreat to go to for a break away. Flaxmill Bay is quiet and peaceful and so handy to Whitianga and Hahei etc. We will be back regularly in the future.

Wonderful weekend for our wedding anniversary at Flaxmill Accommodation. The little cottage was cosy and perfect for our needs. Everything looks new, clean and tidy. The gardens our so beautiful. The location is perfect for easy walks and a quick swim at the beach even in early May! The ferry is so close, it's easy to go to dinner in Whitianga. Friendly welcome and great advice as well. Can't wait to come back, maybe with friends or family booking other cottages on the property.

A gorgeous place to stay! We were in a house with a view of the beach and it was just epic. Gardens and grounds were gorgeous and the house had a great layout with everything you’d expect included. The water from the tap was lovely to drink, they even had herbs we used in our dinner. Super handy location right by the ferry terminal, great swimming in the bay and lots of little walks around the place. Super friendly owners. Would love to come back one day!
