Absolutely worth your time and money to come and visit. My son and I went for a walk and ended up here. After meandering through the whole museum, went through an entrance that wasn't the main entrance, I thought that this is far too good to be free. As it turns out, it is. After emailing them the following ngnday, I quickly deposited the money for the entrance fee as it is definitely worth it (even worth more in my opinion). Gives great insight in to many aspects of the history of the area and my son (3) loved looking at everything and going up the tower to check out the view!

Had a booking for Hobbiton so we popped by to pass time. Ended up so intrigued by the displayed items that I missed my booking but this museum was really well worth it. The person who introduced the buildings was also very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

Nice place, but 4 areas were closed for renovation. However the staff were very helpful and gave us a discount on the ticket. Highly recommended for those who like to know matamata history and their development.

Best value museum in NZ. Can also stay in motorhome. Wonderful history of the Matamata Estate, its owners and managers, farming in the Matamata and farming in NZ. Take your time. Farmers will love it, and townies too

Scenic for photos so a lovely place for wedding photos and the chapel is a lovely church to get married in, well maintained collection of historic memorabilia for the area and NZ in general. Well worth not missing when in the area or if live here as a local
