Connor Hamilton Construction Ltd (CHCL) recommended and sub-contracted Straight Paint Ltd to paint our house and garage post refurbishment. We paid $27,000+ for all interior & exterior paintingVic Hopkirk of Straight Paint approved and signed off all painting in May 2021By Feb 2022 paint was flaking off the garage walls and windows and house windowsIn July 2022 the Master Painters Association did an assessment and found “…the work … (by Straight Paint) … does not meet an acceptable trade standard, and fails to meet the standard described in AS/NZ2311/2017…”In Aug 2022 Straight Paint rejected outright, adjudication with the Building Disputes Tribunal to resolve issues, as did CHCLA quote to repair all painting damage on 18 Sept 2022 was $10,000+, and by 31 Jan 2023 was quoted at $15,000Straight Paint Ltd appear to have “Poor Workmanship” insurance with QBE Insurance!!QBE refused to make an on-site assessment of damage & submitted a weak settlement offerNeither QBE, Straight Paint nor Connor Hamilton Construction Ltd have responded to our requests to pay out for an ACTUAL repair programme, instead of quotes, to stop the decayDue to QBE’s, & SPL & CHCL’s, ongoing voluntary delays for over 12 months to resolve this we have no option but to make good all repairs and then seek compensation. Watch this space.Update Jul 2023: CHCL deployed Badcock Law (Rotorua) on 6 June 2023 to try to force us to accept an expired painting repairs quote ($15,000+) dated 31 Jan and expired 3 Mar 2023. Communication was intimidating, aggressive, threatening and promised a possible cost to us of $50,000. This stopped when we advised we had submitted a complaint to the NZ Law SocietyFurther update: CHCL have advised they will not accept any invoices for painting repairs and have blocked all email traffic from us, after they received the first invoice on 7 July 2023. CHCL claim they are not liable for any painting repairs - despite being paid in full for the original painting ($27,000+)
