Mangawhai Cliff Walk

It doesn’t matter if it is stormy or sunny! Mangawahi is always breathtaking. Lot of car park and services nearby. The view is unbelievably amazing.

Awesome walk on the cliff. Make sure you check high/low tide times beforehand as you cannot use coastal walk during hide tide time.

Epic coastal views and not overly busy since there is a bit of an effort to get up on the ridge.

One of the most beautiful walks on the North Island. A little sketchy at some points if heights aren’t your thing but the view is crazy.

I last visited this place about 50 years ago. It’s amazing to see the changes as well as how the estuary hasn’t changed. The facilities going into to the area are very well done with new toilets and outdoor shower for washing off the salt water. Good parking but on popular weekends and holidays there will not be enough parking.

Great out of the way area to walk. An easy walk along the beach when the tide is out, with a short sandy track down from the road. Us two 80yr olds had no problem. Extra ordinary rocks and cliffs to see. Ok for swimming with changing sheds, toilets etc. Quite a lot of parking available.

A really nice walk. I walked on the cliff on the way out and “beach” on the way back. The views from the cliff walk are spectacular, and there some small sections with natural bush all around you. The trail is marked clearly once you walk north on the Mangawhai heads beach. You need to be mid tide or lower to go on the beach part. The beach is very rocky in areas and pebbly in others and can be a little demanding on the ankles and will be slower going than a regular walking speed. If you don’t want to scramble over rocks for a few hundred metres you may want to go cliff in both directions. In hindsight I would have taken a picnic and spent a little time at one of the scenic stops. The whole walk takes 2-3 hours depending on how much you stop to skip stones and how carefully you cover the rocks.

Such a beautiful walk with coastal views. There’s a bit of a climb in the beginning but quite enjoyable once you’re on top of the cliff. You can do a loop if it’s low-tide (walk along the coast), otherwise can come back the same way.

The views are stunning and it feels so good after finishing the work and take for a walk here.

Great walk on a good day! Take some water and give it a go. Wouldnt recommend the full loop in the tidal area unless you are keen and willing to push yourself and have a good set of shoes.
