About the Business
Fort Takapuna - The Barracks - Auckland Council | The Fort Takapuna Barracks date back to the outbreak of World War II in 1939 and were originally large open dormitories. The buildings fell into disuse and disrepair following the end of the War until a restoration project began in 2014 to bring them back to life for the community to utilize. These days the Barracks are used for a variety of community activities including exercise classes, meetings and are often a popular choice for wedding receptions with the reserve next to the Barracks providing stunning views out over Narrow Neck beach.

Throughly enjoyed the morning here with the kids. We learned so much history and enjoyed the afternoon at the beautiful beach.

Fort Takapuna - The Barracks
Historical, scenic spot that also looks beautiful at sunset with the trees, water, and Rangitoto in the distance behind. Cool in that the barracks are all below ground and you can walk all around and above them, but I haven't been inside on any tours yet (I think they do tours?). Lots of other battery fortifications and such around this fort and park to walk around and enjoy.

Good views of coast and Hauraki Gulf. However the local DOC ranger is a wombat, should learn how to show respect to the public.

Great location and venue, a bit annoyed that we were told we had 4 tables included but arrived to only have 2 tables and available contact on the day to organize the tables we had booked.

The barracks are ok, nothing special. A bit like old classrooms. The grounds are great, quite interesting from a historical point of view.
