SB2 Build

We had an average experience with these guys. We had a complete demo and full rebuild of our bathroom.Cons:* Painting was not of a good standard, despite the painter coming back twice to fix up sloppy work. Roller lines are visible on the walls. Paint was left all over the double glazing and left to us to clean up. Door was left unfinished. Paint was also left on our tiles, power switches and handrail. Gaps around the window were not filled correctly and have reopened. The painting job around the window will probably take a few hours of my own time to fix properly.* On the initial consult we outlined and discussed with the owner what work was to be done. We asked how long the job would take and were told 10 working days. As the job progressed we quickly realised that time frame was unrealistic (job took eight weeks in total, bathroom was usable after four weeks) we complained about this and received an abusive phone call from the owner. Clearly we were told 10 days just so they could get the work.* We allowed them to use our garage and driveway for parking and as a workspace. A cleanup of the garage was attempted, but I had to spend a few hours removing rubbish left behind and cleaning up all the sawdust that got everywhere. Their vehicle had a bad oil leak and left a lot of stains on our asphalt driveway, they did attempt to clean them up but a lot of them are beyond that point.* The tiles in one corner of the shower aren't straight, due to a ceiling that didn't go up straight. The plaster board for the ceiling was fixed directly onto the existing ceiling, which unbeknownst to us wasn't straight. We weren't informed of that possibility and risk during the initial consult.* During the whole process damage was done to our home which still hasn't been fixed as of yet. A cracked board in our toilet from the bathroom demo still hasn't been fixed. Chunks were knocked out of our freshly plastered hallway and internal access foyer at which an amateurish attempt was made to repair, we will have to repair them ourselves.* Communication around who was coming and when was not very good and vague.Pros:* We queried the robustness and accuracy of the quote that was given to us for our bathroom and were given assurances by the owner. In the end the job came in slightly under the original quote.* A few other issues that arose were dealt to without issue, grout falling out, chipped tiles, chipped vanity, broken silicone.* Overall the finished product is acceptable.

After heavy rains, we had serious leaks in our rental property in Dunedin. Sam was absolutely fantastic and liazed with tenant and roofers to find a solution. As landlords out of town, we deeply appreciated his professionalism, helpfulness and his general advice. Although we didn't end up using his services this time, we will definitely be going back to him again as good communication and trust are paramount as absentee clients.Thank you Sam.

We used Sam and Simon for our home renovations. They were great right from the beginning and made dealing with multiple contractors a breeze by managing the project themselves. When everyone was struggling to find architects, Sam connected us with an architect they knew and even came with them up to the house which was so much more accommodating than other builders we approached, who wouldn’t consider the project until we had one.If you want a high quality finish, clear communication and your project finished on time make sure you use SB2.

In my bathroom renovation, the quote was quickly provided, there was a clear schedule of payments, extras agreed and itemised invoices. I am very happy with the project management, the quality of the advice and support given, and their workmanship. Sam and Simon were professional and a pleasure to work with. Most importantly I am delighted with the results.If planning any future building work, I would definitely use them again.

Had a minor issue with a garage extension. Super responsive to our enquiry and even though it was an annoying small job they found time to come and have a look and then get it sorted for us. Great service all round.
