Beautiful place. There is a public toilet near the parking and places to sit back and relax with great views of the river.

Great river for jet boating with some fantastic views up in the Gorge.There is good fishing to be done when the fish are running.Great walkway which starts near the bridge with some pretty neat views of the river and My Hutt.

Nice place for a walk. The beach isn't a good place for swimming but you can go to the river mouth. Took the dog for a walk on not the nicest day but the beach was still reasonable and not to windy unlike what new Brighton,Sumner or Taylors mistake can be like on a windy day.

One of the best place near Christchurch. It is about 100 Km. Very good place to spend some quality time near the bank of Rakaia River. In winter water is too cold but summer is perfect to dive into water. Local people have there own cruises (smaller one) and boats which is very great option to get magnificent look along the river. This river gives sceneric view with giant Mount Hutt specially in winter and spring. Tracking along the river is very famous here. This is a four and half hours tracking.

The Rakaia Gorge is Absolutely 'gorge'ous! Went there multiple times and keep finding different walking routes and the area stays so beautiful no matter if the weather is bad or sunny. Definitely recommend it! Just walk down and walk around the gorge (good footwear is handy because of all the rocks), also the lower gorge walk is beautiful, bit steep sometimes (good footwear is recommended again) but definitely worth it! You can even walk down on the other side where the viewpoint is(little bit back and almost a hidden path). I find myself just going back there often. Does help that I work nearby for a couple of months haha.
