Lake Ohau

We came by to ski the Ohau Ski Fields and stayed at Ohau Lodge. I couldn't see many places where a car could park in the area to access the beach. There were a few close to the lodge entrance. I walked down from the lodge and got onto the beach on foot. You do need to walk through a bit of bush but it was quite sparse so no need in squeezing between plants.The beach is stone and the lake is very calm. The mountains surrounding it were quite breathtaking and very nice to look at. It was a quiet and enjoyable walk along the lakefront. There were a few trees to sit under but it was mostly uncovered. There was also a creek which you had to cross with the help of a fallen log.

Nice spot to free camp

Lake Ohau is one of less crowded spots as it is a good 10-15 minutes off the main highway.What I particularly love about this place is it is quiet, yet quite large still. The water is pure blue and although it can get quite windy here, it is one of my top spots.If you are every driving the Lindis Pass route, do stop here as it is a great lake. It is not one of my personal favourite lakes but it is definitely worth a stop.

Winter BlissThe majestic Lake Ohau was gripped by the clutches of a particularly stubborn cold spell, which brought the existence to a virtual standstill. There is no escape from the wrath of a Southern Hemisphere Winter in full swing, not in the Mackenzie Country, the home of exposed plains ringed by massive jagged mountains.And then, there was an unexpected break. The sun breached the curfew and thawed the lower parts of the land.Two friends, looking almost superimposed over the painting-like surroundings, are using this window of opportunity to spend a few hours on the perfectly still surface of the pristine alpine lake.In the background, Ben Ohau Ranges and their reflections are going to meet The Southern Alps somewhere in infinity, benefiting the entire experience.

Beautiful Lake with Beautiful View. Must visit if you are in the Town.

This is a beautiful mountain lake, fantastic fishing with lovely holiday homes and no shops. Perfect!

Wonderful place for spending holiday, getting away from town. We stayed at AirBnB for 6 of us. Kids loved the house and surrounding with rabbit running around. Also not far from Twizel for fishing. Played around the lake. Definitely would go back.

Great place to visit, beautiful glacial lake scenery, pebble beach, and picnic areas. There is a nearby DOC walk nearby that takes you 7km to the river weir suitable for day walkers.

A must see, Ohau Lake is simply beautiful. A Large body of water that is tastefully refreshing to take a swim in. Must go see for unparalleled views of Mt Cook, from a different angle.

An amazing location, excellent fishing and great views.
