Towai Tavern
Filled with New Zealand locals drinking beer and playing pool-this is an old hotel that once was a railroad stop. Cultural flavor you will find here, flavorful food not as much. Surprisingly the veggie burger was quite good however. The salad was lacking. Fries were ok, albeit huge portions. But if you’re coming here for the food, your priorities are a miss. For a local bar it’s an interesting stop if nothing else. The staff is nice and does what they can, but it’s a dive bar through and through.

Awesome little tavern to call Into on your travels if heading up to the Bay of Islands. Good menu and good selection of drinks. Worth calling in just to look at all the interesting item spread around the walls. Outdoor seating as well as seating in the tavern. Friendly staff. Worth the stop if passing

Definitely one of the best Taverns I've been too! Organic NZ grown ingredients used in there meals, Which are well worth trying definitely quality and quantity all in a meal. I couldn't rate this place any better! The bar service is exceptional with good quality banter! And the huge open garden bar which looks spectacular, Cant wait to return in the summer when theres a live band playing. Even the toilets are kept spick and spam with very creative art work on the wall.

Excellent burger meals. Best road trip stop north of Warkworth. We had chicken and beef burgers. Plenty of food, so the dog left happy too!

Its true, we have just had the best hot roast pork sandwiches ever. I definitely recommend stopping at Towai tavern and checking out the food, surroundings and super friendly staff. Thanks Charlie.

From the get-go you know you’re in for the ride of your life with what has got to be the most charismatic, hilarious and welcoming front of house known to man. Chilled handles for beer making it ice cold, fries were cooked to perfection with some lovely green herbs. Even if you’re not hungry would recommend stopping in purely to see the record-laced toilets.
