I absolutely love the Smata App! It has changed my life. I used to have folders full of disorganised paper observations and photos in my photo library (that I could never actually find again). Thankfully I found Smata and I have never looked back. This app pulls all information together (written and visual) into one place. It is adaptable, so you can enter the data that suits YOU. It is also incredibly helpful if wanting to share information on a child; reporting to parents, sharing with children. This app is a gift to educators!

At Wellington Girls' College we had Bevan work with our department to support us in the first two years of a new course we developed. Bevan's wealth of knowledge about education theory and pedagogy supplied us with the backbone of what we were aiming to achieve and gave us the underlying confidence in the direction we were taking. Bevan always gives your work academic and theoretical rigour. He observed us in action and mentored us by asking all the right questions that empowered us to think more deeply and arrive at solutions that worked for us. As well as this, his sense of humour and non judgemental encouragement meant his visits to our classroom gave us the boosts we needed to keep experimenting. He gently but firmly questions, suggests and points out what is working and celebrating with you.We also benefit from his thought-provoking newsletters which give us a sense of connection and community with others who are aiming to disrupt the systems. Bevan likes connecting people who are aiming to achieve similar outcomesHis Smata app encourages educators to think about ākonga in a far more holistic way and really makes you observe the learner and focus on their strengths. In short, working with Bevan will strengthen your practice. His approach is student-centric, people and learning focused.
