Very busy so would reccomend to book before going! We were a walk in but the friendly staff was able to accommodate us quickly. Amazing service and food 6/5! Had beef empanadas, jalapeño poppers, pork quesadillas, paella and a horchata with coconut milk. Would definitely go back to try the other menu items on a next trip!

Super friendly service. Food is great and tasty, beware portions are big. We had to take home a burrito and it was still good when reheated the next day. I had the beef enchilada which was full of succulent meat and very filling. Drinks are good.

Had one of the best dining experiences here and can confidently say this is one of the best Mexican restaurants we have ever been to!The food was excellent, service was so welcoming and warm, with an amazing Aunty who really added atmosphere and made you feel at home (great recommendations too). The chorizo sausage tapa was unmatched, tacos excellent and the papas fritas con carne y queso was amazing! Margaritas obviously were well worth it and the servings are huge!Definitely worth the visit if in Rotorua.

Everything we had was delicious! I would especially recommend the fajitas and quesadilla. Portions are large but they provide takeaway boxes if you’re unable to finish. Service was friendly and fast. Very family friendly too - we felt very welcome dining with our toddler (who loved eating the black beans). We enjoyed our experience so much that we had dinner there 2 days in a row. Be sure to book ahead as we saw people without reservations being turned away. Thanks so much for looking after us, El Mexicano team!

The most incredible Mexican restaurant in New Zealand, maybe even the Asia pacific region! We had the burrito, quesadillas and corn chips with salsa verde and from the first bite it was mouth watering and you didn’t want to stop eating until you exploded!Absolutely incredible food, service and atmosphere.And randomly, but the water was so good! Crisp and refreshing. I wanted more.

Interesting experience, the chefs special was more spicy then we expected and the flavour was quite unique, it wasnt for us though. The nachos were quite nice I thought the cheese would of been melted more but when it got to us it looked like it had already hardened and stuck together in 1 large clump. The churros were great though.

Despite looking like a Mexican themed restaurant, this place is great. Food is excellent with some minor changes from traditional. Large dinner portions. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Drinks were not strong, but were tasty. Prices were reasonable keeping in mind the food is very good. Outdoor seating has warm gas heaters. Good vegetarian options. Either book or be prepared to wait. Street parking can be a challenge. Highly recommended.

Our go-to for warm dishes and a friendly atmosphere, great for weekend nights out. We highly recommend the black bean dip, the three cheese dip, the tacos, and the churros. There are still dishes we haven't tried, and what we've tried so far are always yummy.

Everything about this place is great, first of all we were lucky to time it right and get a table without booking. But definitely book to make sure you aren't disappointed. Everything on the menu looks delicious, it was a hard choice. We ended up having the enchiladas and the chimichanga, which is grilled not deep fried. The enchiladas were very filling and delicious. Beans and rice came on the side. I also had the classic margarita which was also yum. You need to eat here !
