Tryphena House
Hired some kayaks for a two hour paddle around the bays. Enjoyed it immensely, and saw a lot of bird life on the water - shags, terns, brown teal and (the highlight) a penguin. Pulled the kayaks up on the beach at Gooseberry Flat and enjoyed the warm, shallow, crystal clear waters.Equipment was in great condition, personal flotation devices provided (life jackets) and the friendly staff were happy to provide instruction and advice. Will definitely do it again when next back on Barrier.Hint: If nobody answers the bell at the front door, just wander around the back, where everyone staying at the accommodation is probably soaking up the sun and the view out over the bay.

Amazing place to stay in the 100 year old house. Great facilities and the host’s Peter and Lucy go above and beyond. Amazing views and the baths outside are hot and a great place to watch the sun disappear.

Tryphena House
Stayed at the beautiful Tryphena house for 2 nights, was beautiful in the day, and night with awesome views of the harbour and stars. Location is perfect and the property is setup great with lots to do and birdsong! Pete and Lucy were amazing hosts and went above and beyond for us, including a full platter of fresh cray and sashimi he caught the same day. Highly recommend. We will definitely stay here again next time we are over at barrier!
