Be careful for driving on the winding and narrow lane. Be aware of cyclists and animals (sheep and hare) ahead. Nice sea views around.

Carpark is good for about 20-30 cars, not really any room for large vehicles or caravans etc. toilets right there

The Department of Conservation (DOC) opened a basic campsite at a former military compound at Awaroa/Godley Head, at the entrance to Lyttelton Harbour, in October, 2016. This was a popular camping ground for locals and international tourists. Show casing NZ's fantastic scenery. The walks towards Awaroa/Godley Head and campsite are now closed due to high levels of asbestos nearby. The campsite was also being tested in preparation for upcoming resealing work for the road which also contains hazardous material.Over time, as the road sealant breaks down, these harmful particles become airborne and travel as dust. The dust could be carried indoors on shoes or inhaled. Coal ash and coal tar is known to be carcinogenic with some sealed sections of the road having contamination at a level potentially risky for human health. An alert had been put up on the DOC website and security cameras remain in operation monitoring the area to stop intruders.

Godly heads is such a beautiful place that over looks the Littleton Township. Lots to see and do.. A hikoi with whanau and a bike ride up and around the hills of Sumner And Godly heads.. Definitely not a place to miss or not have on hour to do list.
