Beautiful and insightful trip. Shout out for the dedicated volunteers who help build the bird sanctuary.

Really cool place to come and visit. We spent a week on the island and had a great time. All proceeds of gift shop purchases stay on the island to continue the sanctuary work here for the birds. If you are interested in seeing a large number of New Zealand birds I would recommend the visit. Staying overnight gives you a chance at seeing our nocturnal natives including kiwis! Come along and support this amazing place.

This place is so fun to visit! So many birds, so much birdsong! We took a guided tour, and learned a lot about the restoration work they are doing here to provide sanctuary for New Zealand's wonderful birds.

It's not upmarket and who would want it to be. The aim is supporting nature rather than people, and it does this really well. Staffed with lots of volunteers who are very enthusiastic the centre is fairly large given the setting and has a 3D map of the island as well as exhibits on pests and history, people working with flax giving hands on demonstrations and guidance. The exhibits and demonstrations would vary over time of course. There are toilets and a shop with t-shirts, drinks and many more gifts and other items. Note there is no food for sale. The volunteers also give guided tours of the island which has come a long way in a short time from what was once a farm. There are birds everywhere and good tracks with signage for those not feeling the need for a guide. You can get about easily on your own. The trees and vegetation still have a way to in places but overall it's a superb setting for visitors to come and admire.

This place was really surreal! It was just magnificent! You'll see some of the rarest species of birds and some unbelievably beautiful views. Just close your eyes and listen to the birds singing in the forest and absorb the endless energy of the island. Make sure to bring enough food and water since it's an all-day activity and there is no food or water in the island.

If you want to imagine how beautiful nature is without threat of anything, tiritiri matangi shows you, fauna and flora. I hope so much that a project like this Noahs ark" will always find enough supporters

Had a great experience on the island. The volunteer tour guide went out of her way to explain to us, patiently, about the history and wildlife in the island. Very relaxing way to experience nature. Fun place to frequent with the family.
