Our visit to Amayjen, boasting the renowned chef who recently won two gold medals at NZ Chef of the Year, turned out to be a deeply unsatisfactory experience due to abysmal service and a significant oversight that left us without a meal. Despite the chef's prestigious accolade, the restaurant failed to meet our expectations in terms of service and attentiveness.Upon entering Amayjen for a celebratory lunch, we were filled with anticipation, eager to sample the culinary creations of the esteemed chef. The restaurant's ambiance was pleasing, setting the stage for a memorable dining experience. However, our hopes were quickly dashed. After being seated, it became apparent that the service at Amayjen was severely lacking. After waiting an hour without any sign of our meal and seeing other diners who came in after us receive their meals, we inquired about the status of our order, only to discover that it had never been placed in the kitchen. This oversight was unfathomable, considering the reputation of the chef and the restaurant's aspiration for excellence. To our disappointment, the manager failed to offer any explanation for the extended wait and appeared dismissive of our concerns. No genuine apology or attempt to rectify the situation was made, leaving us feeling unheard and undervalued as customers.Following our departure, the manager reached out by calling us, stating that our order had been overlooked due to a printer malfunction caused by a lack of paper. While we appreciated the belated apology the damage had already been done. The missed opportunity to dine at Amayjen and the initial dismissive attitude from the manager had eroded our confidence and trust in the establishment. In conclusion, despite the prestigious recognition bestowed upon the chef, our visit to Amayjen was marred by poor service, a significant oversight, and a dismissive response from the manager. The restaurant's failure to provide an acceptable dining experience tarnished the reputation that drew us there in the first place. Regrettably, I cannot recommend Amayjen based on our disappointing encounter.

Great service & everything came out in good time. The lamb and beef mains were prepared well and cooked to perfection. Good dining experience.

Good service a little slow but awesome staff. Food was hit and miss across our 9 main meals. Chicken Kiev great ,eye fillet great, salmon and beef cheeks both a little dry. Deserts were a hit. Would go back but with a smaller group.

Came for my birthday tonight. First encounter in the door from (the owner?) left very bad first impression. Entrees (date and prawn dishes) left something to be desired, lamb rack tasted basic. The chicken main was flavourful and the deserts were quite nice (Sunday and taco) although the menu said the sunday comes with homemade marshmallows, however, the ones we were given didn't appear homemade... (Density, texture and flavour of Pascal's marshmallows) while the marshmallows on the taco were the size, texture and flavour of homemade ones. Food was well presented but lacking in the flavour department. Waitress was very friendly. Wouldn't go back due to high price of food that wasn't very satisfying.Super surprising that this place has such a great overview (more than 4 stars) with reviews from 2 years ago but the Palmerston North store opened only 3+ months ago... Should be about 3.4 stars looking at reviews from today until 3 months ago...

We waited a long time after ordering our meals, even checked in with the waitress on how much longer it would be. I will say we were a party of 9 and it was peak dinner time. When the food finally arrived it was absolutely amazing. Everyone loved their dish and could not fault it. Presentation was great and there was a nice atmosphere. A bit pricey and not much variety if that’s what you like. Staff/service was okay.

Great food though a very slow service. I had their eye fillet which was excellent. The starter was very tasty and well presented. The desert looked great and tasted fine. The service staff may need some training and the ambience is clean though a little lacking in character. Certainly lots of upside potential here. The chef knows how to cook and present! The wait during a busy dinner time was around 90 minutes.

Food was ok however prices are high for the types of food offered. My venison was tough however the desert was great. The Wine was expensive as they supplied a bottle of Tony Bish Chardonnay which is $26 at New World and was more than $70 at this restaurant.
