The atmosphere here is more than 5 stars, this place is so natural and calm. and You must visit this place.There is a sidewalk to the lake bypass through the cafe.A lot of tourists visits here and also a local people pass through.you will enjoy yourself here for 100% sure.Food menu is limited onboard but there are a lots of a varieties of Pastries and Sandwiches for you at the counter.You have to order at the counter anf get a number to your table.Staff services is excellent.After I finished my sandwich and chunchy fried, i ll try a famous Carrot cake and Muffins. and take away some to my friends.I wishes you enjoy being here both food, services and a natural activities.

Wonderful cafe by Lake Matheson Walking Track! It's got plenty of indoor and outdoor tables and seats, very spacious. They have transparent glass windows all around, so customers can see the views outside. Food is of good portion and tastes delicious! There is a souvenir shop as well. Limited carpark outside, so hard to find a spot during summer peak time.

I don’t see how this cafe would get less than 5 stars- excellent food, the views of the glaciers too are incredible! Clean. About 10 minute walk to the lake. The gift shop is so cute too.

Dropped by for lunch after walking the Matheson Lake track. After a morning hike, this place offers a nice respite with a gift shop available for perusing.I ordered the venison burger with fries, which hit the spot for lunch. I’d recommend definitely checking this place out if you get the chance.

Fantastic. Came here after the lake circuit walk. Nice food options and lots of seating inside and outside with picturesque views of the mountains.I'm not a salad man but I was feeling adventurous and decided to order the grilled vegetarian salad (+chicken), to which the waitress said good choice that's my favorite". The view alone is worthy of 5 stars. I really enjoyed the very tasty, and cold, iced latte and a delicious muffin while soaking in the beauty that surrounds the Cafe. A walk around lake Matheson then a visit to the Cafe is a must

Matheson Café is that rare beast – a tourist spot café with really good, well priced, healthy food.It was so good we ate here after our walk around the lake, and then came back the next day just for lunchIt was certainly an oasis in a region starved for choice – Fox is clearly still suffering from the Covid shut down and some places were shut, while the few left open had menus filled with items they had run out of (even coffee at one place) and too few staff to serve the tourists flooding back. Somehow Matheson Café had transcended this and delivered a great lunch, and great service, all in a wonderful setting.

A serious claim to ‘Café with the Best View and Food’! If you’re in the area, this is a must-do for breakfast, lunch or a sweet snack. We had all three and a couple of stunning walks in between.

Great service, the noodles were served in a plate bowl which made drinking the soup more difficult then necessary, the flavour was nice though. The burger quick nice and the chips were crunchy. Owner has a very friendly dog that roams around! Big plus if you are a dog person! Great view of Mt Cook if you sit outside as well.

Power was out in town and if had cash they were still serving breakfast. The sour dough bun with eggs and chutney was great. We enjoyed getting out of rain and enjoying a meal cooked by someone else and it was good
