Chopps Firewood

Not open when there Google hours say they are. Understandable. When asked on the phone who else might be able to help their response was pathetic - we don't know; phone around. It's your business; if you don't know I suggest you find out. Merry Christmas

We are really happy with our wood from Chopps. Nice and dry and they went the extra mile when I requested a couple of large pieces to use as chopping blocks. Delivery was on time and communication excellent.

Extremely disappointed with the wood we received. We were told it was rain wet but has arrived absolutely sodden and covered in mud. Not only that but the touch dry pieces of kindling that we carefully selected to get the fire started have refused to light even after adding almost half a pack of fire lighters in around them. So this wood not only seems to be saturated but also green as gum should light easily. Would not recommend this company at all. We'll be needing to buy more wood now from elsewhere and this stuff might be ok for next winter. Not good enough.

Ordered a cord of pine, communication was awesome and prompt delivery (hence 2 stars) However, the wood was wet, some mouldy and the driver was rude. ( I get people have bad days but...) We won't be using Chops again or recommending to anyone.

Paid $380 for 2.4m of Mac was told on the phone it was rain wet that's all good! Load turned up and it's soaking can't light a fire with it basically no good till next year. If your gonna sell wet wood at least tell people and don't charge the premium for it

Ordered a cord of pine and gum in January, in advance of winter.I checked the wood after delivery with a moisture meter and almost all of the gum was around 20-25% moisture (one piece was 35%) which is fine as it will continue to dry before winter. The pine was even better at around 17-20% moisture.Would buy from again.Pros: Fast response time to messages. Cheaper than other wood suppliers in Wellington. Delivered for free right up to my driveway (which can be tricky for a truck to get to). Delivery staff were friendly. Wood was dry.Cons: No real online ordering - easier to call and talk to Karen. If paying electronically you pay before delivery but there's no invoices or receipt (though maybe you could ask for one?) so you have to take it as an act of faith that you'll get the wood after you pay, which can be a bit uncomfortable if you're paying hundreds of dollars.

I was assured wood was rain wet only by email and text message, and most of it would be good to burn in a couple weeks. Big lie. It is water logged and dirty and pretty much unusable until next season. Go elsewhere if you want dry wood ready to burn.

We are so stoked to have found these guys. Best wood we’ve had in many years; 4 cords that was all beautifully dry and cut to sensible lengths. Fast delivery. Lovely people too. All-round awesome!

Purchased wood, asked specifically if it was dry and ready to burn now. When it arrived 2/3 was damp and 1/3 of that was saturated, won't be ready for 12 months. I called and to their credit had very good respectful service. They delivered an additional 1m3 of dry pine free of charge. Although not ideal, I can't fault their service, just the initial produce was a bit disappointing. Will use them again.
