My mother and father passed away almost 2 years ago now. 4 months apart. I have been trying, unsuccessfully for the whole 2 years to become involved in one of their grief support groups as I have not been coping with my loss. In the whole 2 years- I have gotten one response via email back to tell me there is no more room. One email! Out of I don’t even know how many! Over the course of 2 years! So much for grief support...

It really is a privilege to work with the dedicated clinical and administrative team at the Grief Centre. They work tirelessly to serve people in our community who experience human emotional trauma, in its many forms. This collaborative team has total commitment to assisting people with some of the most challenging times in their lives.

I met staff at the grief centre during a christmas function and everyone was very kind to me and friendly. I was nervous but I am glad I went and it was really nice to meet you all xOxOx

I emailed them over one year ago to sign up for a support group. Only now have I gotten a response. I complained that it has taken this long and I was very very frustrated receiving no communication. They responded that when I emailed they were ending their services for the year and we're also affected by covid. I replied apologising for my blunt email and that they should've told me these things a year ago. They then responded with thank you Karen! I'm sure this was a nod to the Karen meme considering my name is vastly different. It hurts to be treated this way and these people should not be dealing with vulnerable communities.

The counselling services have been and continue to be amazing for both my daughter and myself. The staff are kind, generous with their time and made sure the counsellors matched our personality and needs.I am truly very grateful for what they have given our family. Thankyou!have given our family.

I enquired and got a call back that they couldn't help (which is fine I completely understand) . The lady that called me sounded like she was annoyed with me. She was quite abrupt and in all honesty arrogant toward me. The problem I have with this is they have people of all different needs emotionally... Some people enquiring are at the end of their ability to deal with issues on their own and feel its their last attempt to it turn around... To get such a response from a psychiatrists office makes you wonder wither you don't just give up. Maybe it's not worth being vulnerable and reaching out for help. Maybe it's just easier to give up. I'm sure your nice people and help many people. Just remember to treat people with some dignity and some respect cause it can make all the difference in someone's day, week or life. Kia kaha.

In February my father died and after battling with greif I approached this place for help. After emailing to request a appointment I got a reply 3 weeks later saying I needed to call to make an appointment.Ended up just battling with it by myself. I don't know why they couldn't have tried to call me at least.

DONT RECOMMEND. Go elsewhere. I was very judged and inaccurrate assumptions were made about me which were said in the last 5mins of our session. Extremely unprofessional and counsellor was unethical in voicing the judgements and assumptions made. I was reluctant to see someone and wish I had never seen someone here. I didn't gain anything from seeing a grief counsellor her. She also claimed to be a psychologist but prefers to be a counsellor. She also has no knowledge of how the NZ health or mental health system works.

I work for the Grief Centre and am always humbled by the support we are able to give and the differences we make in peoples life. I would reccommend anyone who is struggling through loss and grief to give them a call and see how they can support you.
