What a gem of a place. It was a privilege to dine at The Butcher Baker. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. We both ordered the crumbed gurnard which was perfectly cooked. The waitress recommended the cassava fries as an accompaniment and they were delicious. We couldn’t fault our meal and the wine list was excellent. Highly recommended!

The food was beautifully and carefully presented. It was fresh and delicious. Look forward to trying the scones next time. The coffee however was good but strong as the large cups were disappointingly small. For such hearty, delicious and homely food, bigger cup / mug options would be a perfect addition. A Fabulous bathroom and a lovely setting. Pleasant staff.

My Butcher Baker experienceHelensville residents have been raving about the new local eatery, The Butcher Baker, commenting “finally a quality restaurant in our region to go to.” I will extend that invitation by saying “finally something that the wider Auckland community will hear about and frequent to Helensville for.”In my travels around Africa I was fortunate to have the most memorable food experience to date. A little village at the waterfront of Lake Victoria was a humble café, one man cooking over a ‘cheko’ (open fire) in what can only be described as a wooden shack. Dining alone I ordered a whole Lake Victoria fish, served with African greens (cabbage fried in lard). The natural salts of the fresh water fish along with char and smoke from the open burner infused flavors I’d never experienced, the unpretentious method of cooking and limit of ingredients afforded the beautiful protein the attention that it needed. Hence I returned to the café for whole fish every night that week.Stepping into The Butcher Baker for dinner I was arrested by a fragrance that took me right back to the waterfront café at Lake Victoria Tanzania. An open kitchen, wood fire grill and a whole fish carcass hung by the fire perfusing the most incredible sea salt scent throughout the room. It’s not often you’re caused to salivate prior to eating but this magical sensory experience tickled the taste buds and excited anticipation of our meal.Only two chefs work the kitchen, their heads don’t raise from beginning to end of service, a dedication and intensity that is reflected in the food. Each plate contemporarily presented. Unmistakable pairings of herb remoulade and black garlic, charred vegetables and smoked condiments arranged with meat that’s cooked to perfection! In addition to the aroma of burnt rustic smells, visuals are tantalized with shelves glorifying the art of pickling, cookbooks and ingredients that invite the traditions of food culture. This place is an all-round dining experience.A nostalgic charm that is The Butcher Baker won’t disappoint with its winsome environment, friendly staff and accessibly priced food. I am fortunate to have such a rare find at my front doorstep. Enjoy a night away from the city madness, drive along a moonlit countryside and romance yourself with this authentic cuisine.

Recommend pancake and fried potatoes. The sauce for fried potatoes is so delicious, even match the fried fish we order.Atmosphere and environment are fabulous.

A very artistic restaurant. The staff is very enthusiastic and very vibrant. The lunch menu is very simple. From the selection of ingredients, the matching of taste, color matching, and the choice of tableware, I can see that the details of the owner are perfect. The dinner menu is attractive, try dinner another day.I am from Shanghai and I like to experience all kinds of food. Lucky to live in Hobsonville, only a 30 minute drive to the restaurant. I wish the restaurant can enter the top 5 in the Auckland restaurant list next year.

A rustic European-style gemIntro: First visit to the Butcher Baker Cafe and I was impressed with the decor, has a Tuscan / Casablanca vibe, casual family, couple friendly place. They’ve definitely made themselves a unique and competitive contender to local cafes. Food and drink have a number of modern contemporary options (in comparison to the area). Have a children’s play corner with bean bags, toys, sand box, water feature and parents can definitely keep an eye on the kids or sit down and join in the fun.Experience: The staff are lovely, polite and punctual; on arrival, they immediately greeted us as we walked into the main outside sitting area where we were escorted to our seating, helped us to drinks and menus. It was quite busy, but not full and did take time to get our food but took that into consideration. Food was great, eggs were a tad on the salty side but some pepper helped level it out. Conclusion: if you haven’t been and you’re a local, or if you’re passing through, I’d definitely recommend that you stop by the Butcher Baker cafe. Take your friends, partner, family and enjoy!

It's a small boutique looking place. They have both outside and inside sitting space. When we visited they were packed yet not crowded. Food was nice and coffee was great. Servicing staff were relaxed and friendly to deal with.
