Royal Mail Hotel
The building & rooms are charming & comfortable. There are some really nice touches & furnishings that make the Royal Mail Hotel stand out from the usual small town offerings. The owner & host Mel was welcoming & lovely & couldn’t have done more to make my stay memorable. I’ll be back.

Oh boy, what a delightful night’s stay for 6 ladies from Wanaka and Mosgiel on last night of Around the Mountain Trail. A fun visit was made to the Op shop, with several bargains, including evening and cocktail dressses. We decided to leave 1 hanging Melanie, who knows, maybe the start of Vintage clothing collection——or back to where it came from!! Melanie was a super Hostess, we really enjoyed her company, good luck to you both with Liquor license and restaurant. We all wish you both good luck in the future. Regards Eleanore

I have to say, Lumsden was a pleasant surprise for us. We stopped here after a big day in Milford Sound. We has not anticipated the distance very well so made a very last minute booking with Melanie. She was so accommodating of us...making sure we were able to access our keys for a very late check in. She was very relaxed in the morning and did not hustle us out at 10am but let us stay on a bit. I would definitely recommend a stop in Lumsden as the town is quite quaint.

10 of us cycling up NZ. We had the good fortune to stay here and we all loved it. Comfortable beds. Clean and very retro. Melanie the host was awesome

We had a truly wonderful overnight stay at the Royal Mail hotel. It is a beautifully maintained property. We arranged a last minute room with the owner (Melanie) who was one of the nicest people we have met here in NZ. (And that is saying a lot, since EVERYONE is so nice here in NZ.)

A gorgeous property with amazing service! Melanie could not have been nicer and ensured that I had the best stay possible. Lumsden is a small town but the hospitality and care at this quaint and historic property would put the chain properties in town to shame. Will be staying there again very soon!

Melanie was a fantastic host, very welcoming , the bunk bed room was very comfortable, the hot bath and extra food in the kitchen was a brilliant bonus. Highly recommend!

We loved this beautifully olden days decorated hotel! Our group of 8 did a lucky dip with the keys so two couples were the lucky users of an ensuite! The key locker system on the front door worked perfectly. The kitchen downstairs was spacious and provided extras as a bonus. Although we stayed only for one night on our Around the Mountains cycle trail, we'd loved to have stayed longer. We enjoyed chatting with Melanie and wish her and Ralph all the best with the Royal Mail Hotel and the bar soon to open. To see the end result of the renovations (and have a drink) we'd come back! From the Bay of Plenty group of friends.
