Café El Porteño
We had a quick lunch at Cafe El Porteno on Easter Saturday. When we got there, the place was packed.We ordered the cheese scones and the ham empanada. It was our first time trying the empanada, and although we enjoyed it, I can't remember seeing any ham. Maybe I was just too hungry.The staff were pleasant as always. Overall experience was very good. We enjoy eating here when we're in Tawa. We're definitely coming back.

Café El Porteño
Gorgeous location Ina picturesque and very aesthetic cafe. The food was nice and not too heavy, the affogatto was divine, with delicious coffee and rich creamy ice cream. I had the salmon and caper bagel, which while not a huge portion, is delicious with a fabulous rye bagel. One of my fellow diners got the scone burger, which looked and tasted amazing, so I highly recommend it for those with a larger appetite. The smoothies are refreshing and well made too.

100% the best cheese scones around! Always very friendly staff, great hot chocolate. Enjoy coming here when are in Tawa.

I only ordered scones, a smoothie and coffee but I'm definately coming back for a proper meal. Everything I ordered was great, but the staff there were absolutely amazing. Decor is bright and happy... Can't wait to try a S'cone Burger

Absolutely loved this place. I went here very early in the morning as there was nothing much open in the vicinity at 7am. The guys at the till had a big smile and was so welcoming. I had a gourmet panini and coffee with an Argentinian slice. It was super cheap, quality ingredients and lightning fast service. 10/10 for these guys!

May 2023: Everything was as great as usual, with a little difference. The coffee was piping hot, my partner burned his mouth badly. Don't want to step in the guessing area but the barista didn't seem to care a lot when was told.P.S. When it cooled down a little bit it turned out to be too sour. Piping hot, underextracted coffee is not the coffee we expected from El Porteño.UPD July 2023: We finally got a chance to visit El Porteño again. Last time the burns lasted for almost a week so my partner was very cautious trying his coffee today. The coffee temp and taste were Ok, hence I am changing my rating from one star to three to reflect the owner's efforts to address the problem. I hope in a year I can confidently submit a 5-star review which this place deserves.On reflection, it also might be that our well-insulated take-away cup with sipping cup was part of the problem. If you take it away check the temperature before sipping.

Really nice little place. Went fairly early, so there were tables available, and a park right out front. Gets busy pretty quick, so that's a good sign. Coffee had good flavour, not ashy like some cafes, so I bought a bag of beans as well. The cheese scone...yum! So fluffy. Definitely going back. :)
