Didn't actually planned to eat here but I was glad we did. Popped in for lunch and we ordered the roast of the day (pork) and a ribeye. Both dishes were excellent and the roasted potatoes were crisp on the outside while soft on the inside.It was little wonder why the place was full of patrons when we left at about 1pm. Excellent food and service with free on-street parking just outside the restaurant.

Do not pass through Oamaru without stopping in Star and Garter for the best meal in town - and perhaps the best meal you've eaten in New Zealand. The menu has straight forward classic NZ fare that is made from scratch and served by the most delightful folks. My husband ordered the sensible pan-fried blue cod which was delicious. I ordered the lamb shank which was slow cooked to absolute perfection in red wine which later was perfected into gravy. The mashed potatoes were fresh and outstanding in their texture and the vegetables were tender crisp.ps: do not miss out on a side of their home made cole-slaw.

I had a classic slow cooked roast pork meal and my colleague had seafood chowder. Delicious, traditional fare which is well priced with generous portion sizes. The dessert of the day was also amazing, and the coffee was perfect. The service was impeccable and the staff delightful. I look forward to coming again next time I’m in Oamaru.

A restaurant and a pub located in an ancient building. I liked their pasta. If u pay on paywave you will be paying a little extra. To avoid that u can insert card, pay the traditional method. I didn't explore around much, but I dnt assume there will be onsite parking. But, if u r lucky street parking is available for free nearby. Inside it was nice, clam and quiet. Has purposely or by itself looks classic inside with a piano and all. Customer service was fair enough. Alcohol is served inside. Was a good experience. A fire place/ log burner is inside..

Had the most amazing lamb shank here. They’re open for lunch at off peak times (ours was 3 pm) unlike a lot of other establishments nearby. There was one lady waiting all the tables when we’re there, she did amazing. Will come again if we have the chance!

Went here for our evening meal last night. The food selection was good, the portions and presentation were also very good. The prices are also very reasonable. I had the pumpkin soup, the blue cod main and the lemon sponge for dessert. The staff were friendly and helpful. The tables aren't crammed so you have space to talk. If you are in Oamaru for a few nights I would definitely recommend going here, The place has a lot of history, the photos on the walls are fascinating.
