While I did not look through this Dementia Rest Home (D3, D4 rating, some difficult behaviour etc, though not as difficult as those in a D6, who need more Hospital care.)A friend and I were met first by a Staff member who was very helpful and she went and got the Supervisor Michelle who was Excellent. While she could not help my friend with his Mother (D6) she explained that North Canterbury didn't go up to D6 (to the Best of her knowledge) and that there were only five (again to the Best of her knowledge) in Christchurch. Michelle was very Charming, you felt that Residents of Adriel were probably well cared for judging by the Two workers I saw and the glimpse I had of the Main lounge. I have seen the Adriel residents bus on outings to Amberley Beach and Leithfield Beach, reassuring that there are outings. One final thanks to Michelle she suggested looking at Elder Net. Com. Not the home for us. When showen through (before placing dad in there for respite) my brother and I thought things looked ok, staff helping others, everyone polite, and a chart on the wall read off daily activities at particular times, each day we asked that dad be prompted to join in. That chart turned out to be rubbish, not one outing in the van and activities at the home we're very minimal to not at all. After admitting dad for respite, we found him in his room wet, naked and cold with no idea of where his clothing was. When we spoke to staff the young girl said ''oh your father said he could shower and dress himself'......dad has dementia and of course he will say that coz in his mind he can do that.I felt alittle miffed and spoke to someone who said she was a Nurse. The nurse followed up with 'she hasn't been with us long' .....What happened to staff training??? Are we expected to leave a parent in the hands of a 20ish yr old who obviously dsn't understand dementia?? Not likely, dad is now placed in a Radius Carehome and while they have their probs, the residents are well cared for and happy.I think these smaller home care facilities do not have the capacity to employ enough knowledgeable staff, and because laws permit they are allowed minimal staff numbers. In a larger run facility they don't mind using temping agencies for Xtra staff where as the likes of Adriel survive in the bare minimum of staff, ofton untrained

There's a nice feel to the place, the staff have always been really friendly and helpful, and very respectful towards the residents (and visitors).
