Lily the Doula

Lily was an absolute lifesaver over our birth and postpartum period. She provided amazing emotional and logistical support, advocacy, as well as helping us make informed decisions at each step of our birth journey. Her presence definitively changed what could have been an extremely traumatic experience into one that we feel no regrets. I recommend her 110% to anyone looking to give birth or needing postpartum support.

Highly recommended!!! As a first time mum, I hired Lily as a doula to help me through the birthing process. I had a difficult pregnancy and didn't know what to expect. Lily was with me every step of the way, helping me to figure out what I wanted from the birth with no pressure or judgement. She is extremely knowledgeable, and always went the extra mile to follow up with me and provide me with extra resources. Lily was never too busy to talk with me or meet up. She advocated for my baby and I throughout the birth, and coached me through my breathing techniques. She was there in a flash when I needed her! Her calm, confident and caring nature helped me to achieve the informed and calm birth that I wanted, despite some challenging circumstances. Baby Jeremy and I can not thank you enough!

Lily was both my birth doula and birth photographer for my first birth and I am extremely thankful I decided to have Lily join my birth team.Lily provided both myself and my partner the guidance and support I needed to ensure I had a positive birth experience despite things diverting from my birth plan. Lily came to our home and photographed our baby at nine days old. She was so considerate and gentle coming into our little newborn bubble. She captured our little girl and new family unit beautifully, including some shots with our golden lab and my mum who arrived mid photoshoot. Lily was so easy to work with and our edited photos were back to us quickly which was also awesome. The photos she captured will be treasured in years to come! Would highly recommend Lily.

Lily was amazing at my home birth!! I also really appreciated all the help and support leading up to/planning the homebirth. She was always available to talk through my questions and concerns. Lily was such a calming presence at my birth, reassuring me at each stage. The photos she took were incredible too! A doula is a must at any type of birth to help feel supported and informed. I always thought that I would be the perfect soon-to-be Dad navigating birth with my partner; sitting there holding her hand as she went through labour. Not long into our pregnancy I realised just how skewed my perception was. As I learnt more about birth, I realised I could become the protector of our birth space. I know for a fact I would never have been able to play such an important role in the journey without Lily’s help. Lily gave me the education, awareness, and guidance to show up as the best version of myself in the way that my partner needed me to, all while continuing to advocate for us and provide nothing but the highest level of care for my partner. Lily you are an amazing woman and I wish every single person navigating birth could have you by their side.

I cannot say enough good things about Lily. I was a bit unsure about birth photography, mainly because I didn't like the idea of having an addional person present for the birth, but after meeting Lily for a coffee and chat I was instantly at ease. The photos she took are absolute treasures and she perfectly read, supported, and added to the energy in the room. My previous labour had been very quick and Lily made it her mission to make sure she was there in time. She was waiting for me when I arrived at the birth centre and captured the big moment only a few minutes later. I would happily recommend Lily to anybody. She is an absolute gem.

My first birth was interventions-filled and traumatic, which contributed to a very long and challenging postpartum recovery. When we found out we were expecting our second child in March 2022, and learnt that we would be moving in January from Auckland to Hamilton (where we have no family or close friends), I made the decision to hire Lily. This turned out to be the best decision ever made! As my birth doula Lily soothed my anxiety by providing objective, evidence-based research to help me make informed decisions almost every step of the way. She went above and beyond by helping our whanau settle in the new city. When my original midwife suddenly dropped my case for personal reasons, Lily recommended me a great team of midwives whose values and practices aligned with mine. She also made the effort to get to know my family, especially our toddler! We had a very positive homebirth experience this time around. Lily was there to provide just enough support throughout labour - she was never intrusive but always making useful suggestions to me or my husband. Although we had a planned homebirth, our baby arrived before the midwife even arrived. I really think this happened because a) I trusted my body b) Lily reassured me that my body was capable c) I trusted Lily! As my postpartum doula Lily always made sure I had everything I needed and spoiled me with her cooking. I highly recommend Lily. She is smart, compassionate and passionate with her role as a doula. Her biggest gift is her ability to listen from her heart without judgment. Oh and she took amazing photos for us too - how talented is she!

Lily is basically the wonder women of the birthing community. She fills the role of Doula in a world where her skill is so extremely needed. Lily changed so much about the way my birth went, she instilled so much confidence in me about my ability to actually have a choice on how my birth proceeded. She was gentle, helpful and reassuring during labour. My homebirth couldn't of been half of the beautiful experience is was without Lily advocating alongside me and my Husband. In fact it almost didn't happen until Lily came into the picture and we worked together with a great LMC to make it happen. She is amazing at what she does and truely has a heart of gold.
