One of the best organic shops we found in NZ! And we love the coffee we bought there, small roastery but the best coffee we had in NZ :) Well done!

Wonderful wholefoods shop, lovely atmosphere. Very affordable and offering great discounts for co-op members. Selling fresh, organically grown local produce, local cheese, preserves and natural skincare. Also Trade Aid tea, coffee and gift items. Local sourdough bread and Bella Vacca milk in glass bottles. Bulk olive oil and apple cider vinegar, byo container. The best little shop in Northland!

Wow! Everything in this store is so healthy and natural, it's an incredible contrast to things available in nearby towns. The fresh produce is incredibly vibrant and delicious (just cooked up their fresh broccoli). They have fruits, veggies, meats and cheeses (all local of course). Then there's the groceries. From puffed quinoa to organic cacao, they have absolutely everything one could wish for, all organic and all at reasonable prices. They also have a coffee machine, and warm local pies if you weren't already convinced. The service is stellar, I'll be coming back very soon with an emptier stomach!

A great feeling, walking in to this friendly inviting store. Always time for a chat too! Fresh fruits and vegetables in season from mainly local growers. The bulk being spray free or organic where possible. Other products are organic and ethically sourced. You can give the supermarket a miss!! Jos and Ian do a great job bringing this resource to our community. Support local growers and producers. A great place to get your groceries, lovely gifts and a coffee too.

2022.The store is now well stocked and offers a wide range of products including plants and shubs outside. Homewards, gifts and crafts are also available.Update 2021- The store has now moved to Whakapara (the old Lilis cafe building) I havent visited yyet so cannot review but I expect its still awesome!Update - October 2019Our little store has been through a huge makeover recently and although it retains its rustic local charm, it is far from 'little' anymore!Busness owner Jos also has some exciting plans for future developments too.Since my last review - the fresh foods range has expanded enormously as has the footprint of the shop. Local meat is now available from the freezer. You will notice many plants and seedlings for sale outside. Three new areas have been converted including the back room housing eco cleaning products, dry stores and fresh produce. The kitchen has been converted to a bulk-bin area with largely organic wholefoods and dry stores, many are local. Prices are very competative and many are below their supermarket non-organic equivalent. Bring bags/containers or use the shops paper bags.A cafe area has also been created in the former hairdressers where hot drinks can be purchased while you peruse the papers or watch local crafters hard at work (aparently Betty and her needlework is a regular!)Point of sale has also been upgraded with the latest IT.There's so much to mention - why not pay Jos a visit.Original Review:-This is such a great little store, well worth a visit from locals or travellers just passing through. The shop is a community cooperative run by two people and although the business is in its early stages (trading since Christmas 2017) it already has a loyal local following growing all the time.Trading under Wholey Health at present, this cute little shop is reminiscent of a bygone village grocery store. But don’t be misled by the rustic homely style of the decor - the ambience may conjure up traditional country living but the aspirations of owner Jocelyn Apeldoorn are very much forward thinking and innovative. At present a range of groceries are on display including fresh fruit and vegetables, preserves, fresh bread, free range eggs and local artisan cheeses. In the cool cabinet you will find smoked mussels and oysters and fresh local salads. The fresh produce is supplied by local growers and householders under the cooperative system. For $10 a month members benefit from a generous 10% discount which can be offset by supplying the store with stock! The selection and quantity of fresh produce varies with seasonality, weather and local supply. On the shelves are a range of fare trade teas and coffees, condiments and ingredients including bulk-buy vinegars, oils and dry stores. Remember to bring your own container! At present the IT infrastructure at point of sale is rudimentary but there is eftpos and the promise of modern retail-tech in the future. But that’s no bad thing because as you wait for your items to be bagged up you have time to peruse the selection of bespoke gifts and crafts on display including handmade candles, baby clothes, essential oils and soaps, textiles and other hand-made artisan artefacts all inexpensively priced. If you’re after a very personal gift from a local craftsperson you have unexpectedly found yourself in the right place!Plans for the future include expansion of the shop footprint to the rear and some exciting pop-up events such as tea tastings!I challenge you to pop in and not be welcomed, amazed, and contented at your shopping experience.
