Good accommodation nice friendly pub and owners will even sit and talk play pool have a beer with you, nice Peale, make you feel at home

The lodge cafe has never been open when we passed through from Napier and Taupo. May have gone out of business

Horrible people they where always very rude when I went in there and they coused a lot off problems for people living next door I also got sick from eating their fish would not recommend wasting your time there.

The rangitikei lodge is the second to last stop for food at the end of the Taupo Plains heading towards Napier. They have a nice, simple selection of savoury cooked foods and sweet pre prepared foods. The prices are reasonable. The coffee and tea we had for lunch were hot and tasty. The plate of chips was very nicely done and also tasty, and we were able to apply salt and tomato sauce as we wanted. There's free wifi access, but it is limited to 15 minutes. There is no phone data signal available at this location. The inside of the lodge is an eclectic mix of various rustic themes and rugby paraphernalia. There is a small bar and a pool table at one side of the lodge. There isn't much in the way of views out the window, and the road traffic can be very busy, but overall it's a peaceful setting with plenty of seating which is moderately comfortable. The toilets are very dated but clean and quite serviceable. Overall the place could do with a bit of a spruce up, but generally speaking it is a cosy place to stop for a light meal and take a break from a long drive, and although the decor is definitely dated and looking a bit old, everything is visually quite clean and tidy. I was a bit disappointed that the staff who served us weren't at all friendly and did not engage in any kind of conversation, but when a local turned up they were very chatty and happy to talk with them. The car park has a number of potholes in it that require filling and when it rains hard they tend to fill up very quickly with water, so care with parking is advised. We were particularly pleased that there was no smoky smell within any of the eating areas of the lodge, although I'm not sure if the lodge is specifically smoke free or not. We also have enjoyed the background music that seemed to be a selection of late 60s and mid 70s music, but not at a high volume. There is an electric vehicle charging station in the parking area, but no gas pumps for petrol driven vehicles. Also, the toilets are not available for travelers who purchase nothing at the lodge.

Mediocre food and bad coffee. Rude lady at counter. Really deserves zero stars.

I was the only person eating in the restaurant so they weren't run off their feet yet when bought my food out she forgot to ask if I'd like sauce. When i replied yes was told to get it myself on the counter that the woman just passed. In my book that's very poor slackarse Customer service and the best way to describe the meal was forgettable. Was all there but lifeless....couldn't taste the love. Don't stop here folks

What a dissppointment! After a week of nothing but friendly people here in New Zeland we walked in to this place for a coffee and a bite to eat but got attacked by an incredibly rude woman saying that she was not a public toilet ( nobody had asked to use her toilet).She kept on saying that it was not enough to buy coffee to use her toilet before we were able to order anything..Never met anybody this rude, enough to say we ran out of there. Avoid this place at all costs.

Odd little place in the middle of nowhere with smiling staff, but limited food range. As a break / rest stop i would recommend it.

If adolf hitler and stalin would run this motel together, i am 100% sure costumers would prefer them over the rude women who is currently behind the bar at this restaurant.I really disrecommend this motel. It will save you a bad mood.
